Rock painting

Hi there are lots of these groups now so I hope someone can help.
One of my groups is getting a bit stroppy that rocks are disappearing or that people aren't posting photos on Facebook.
I am sure I have seen an article from an original founder of the idea that it is about kindness. And that you should paint and hide a rock selflessly for it to give pleasure to others without conditions. Some people will not know it is a 'thing' to rehide or photo or post on the Internet and that if taking a rock gives them pleasure then that's the whole point.
I have tried googling and searching my main fb rocks page but can't find the article/Web page. Can anyone help as I want to add a bit of sanity to the outrage about people 'stealing' rocks...

yep - I think the original meaning is being lost and was hoping this might ring some bells and someone can help me find that article.
Its supposed to be a selfless act to put a bit of brightness into the world... If people see a pretty rock and take it to give themselves a bit of happiness is just as nice a thing as putting a photo on facebook. The article I saw articulated it really well and I am kicking myself that I didn't save it and can't now find it...

Some towns have stopped rock painting as they were being used to throw at ducks etc or being decorated with foam, google eyes that baby birds have choked to death on.

Not so fun when you think of the impact on wildlife.
