Can I claim this back?

I was meant to go on holiday with my partner. I am currently going through a divorce with my ex (we've been separated for ages) and he was meant to have our children whilst I was on holiday. However, the night before ex was meant to have them, he fell (drunk I reckon) and hit his head. He was taken to hospital overnight. I had to cancel my holiday.

He now refuses to go to his GP to get a note so that I can claim the costs of my holiday on the insurance. I have to write this off, don't I? There's no way I can get a note without his say so?

(I am repressing my rage in this post or I'd go on and on...)

It's not looking hopeful. Sorry.

CherryPavlova · 05/11/2018 08:38

No you can’t get a medical certificate for someone else.
Yes, you’ll have to write it off, I,think.
Bit miserable.

Could you ask your insurance compsny is there anything else they would accept like a statutory declaration?

Pidlan · 05/11/2018 09:49

Thanks all. I'll try that Alfie. I haven't been on holiday for 14 years, and have been scrimping and saving for this. He never even apologised.

Have you checked your policy to see if it covers childcare issues? Even with a medical note most cheaper policies don't offer that.

Awful situation though, can understand why you're fuming.

It covers illness of a close relative bombadier, and as we are still technically married...

If he was in hospital over night he’ll have a discharge letter. Will he give you that?

Pidlan · 05/11/2018 10:41

No chick. I asked him and he just refuses. Can't believe he's being like this- I thought he was so wonderful once.
