How do you sign off emails to your FIL?

If it was MIL, I'd just say Thanks! See you soon.

But he sent me some info I'd asked MIL for as she was on the train. And he signed it "Have a nice evening. FIL"

Now if I write back
Thanks!
Have a good week

Does it look like I'm just repeating him? He's retired, not likely to see him until the end of the month.
Best wishes sounds too ridiculously formal for IL's . But it still needs to be polite.

Argh, what's the etiquette for IL emails?

Thanks, you too!

Or thanks, take care

TrippingTheVelvet · 05/11/2018 07:55

You're overthinking this Grin 'Thanks! See you soon!

FireworksAndSparklers · 05/11/2018 07:57

You are overthinking this!

'see you soon, Days'

Honestly, you think he'll notice what you write because you obsess over it, but most people don't even notice sign offs.

Kintan · 05/11/2018 07:58

I’d just sign my initial and two kisses. Why does it have to be ‘polite’ do you mean it needs to be quite formal? How about just ‘thanks and same to you!’

ChocolateTearDrops · 05/11/2018 08:15

Thanks, you too!

Ahh I read this as "thanks, you tool" and thought that quite rude...

I then reread it. Grin

flatpack1 · 05/11/2018 08:26

Yes as Luther says just a simple Thanks, take care or Thanks, love to MIL, take care.

DaysDragonBy · 05/11/2018 08:49

Grin I'm glad you think I'm over thinking it.

For a second email question a friend of my DM, who always sends my DC a book as a Christmas present, has asked for ideas for my DC2. Is it ok to say
"she's interested in X, Y, Z. She's got Ax, By, Cz, d,. She likes listening to stories, we have e,f,g,h,i,j,k, series and DH is reading her L at the moment." ?

Oh my word, Days! How do you get anything done in your life? I think you sound lovely, but do you always need to ask people if wording for very simple emails is OK? Are you a very anxious person?

DaysDragonBy · 05/11/2018 09:30

Most of the stuff I need to get done doesn't involve other people Grin

Would it be easier for the friend if it was more specific like at the moment she/Days is reading the [insert1] series. When she has finished Days would like to start the [insert2] stories so maybe you could start them off with book 1? It's called [insert3].

AviatorShades · 05/11/2018 11:02

Cheers! Shades, cept not Shades cos that's not your name so that'd be daft, and actually its not my name either....
but...Cheers! followed by your name

job doneSmile

Hey Pa! Much appreciated, Andro

You are seriously over-thinking.

GoldDustWomanSteph · 05/11/2018 12:47

emails to PiL I sign off - Love, Steph x

I would give DM's friend a choice of two or three specific books (titles and author) for your DC.

I am President of Over Thinkers Anonymous btw Grin

Babybearsporij · 05/11/2018 13:46

I always do "Love Babybearsporij" xx

LutherRalph1 · 05/11/2018 14:03
