Would you go to a @ e if this was your foot?

It’s my mums partner 72. I’m nowhere near them. He went to doctors on Friday with a swollen red toe and he gave him meds for gout and said it should go down in three days. Now it’s swollen like this. He had a quadruple bypass last year and mum is worried it could be related. She doesn’t drive and he has an appointment in the morning, what do you think?

It is very swollen, do they have a minor injuries or could they call 111?

witchy89 · 04/11/2018 18:52

Could she call 111 and see what they suggest? Personally I probably would go to a&e tbh!

PoliticalBiscuit · 04/11/2018 18:52

Yes I would go to a&E.

He doesn't have any red areas higher up his leg?

Yes I would. It's the only way he'll get seen by someone who can tell him what's going on. 111 can't diagnose over the phone and it's not a minor injury.

Antigonads · 04/11/2018 18:54

I’d wait till morning.

redsummershoes · 04/11/2018 18:54

yep
I think a&e is appropriate.
nice chair!

With him having had the bypass I would say he needs to go straight to the hospital, get them to ring 111 if they don't want to call the ambulance themselves.

My Uncle had the same operation and anything like this happening and he was told to go straight to the hospital.

HoleyCoMoley · 04/11/2018 18:56

Yes, he needs to have that looked at. Is it the same leg they took a vein from for his bypass.

Veterinari · 04/11/2018 18:56

Yes A and e.
With his history i’d Want to check for circulatory issues such as a clot in the limb

xJune88 · 04/11/2018 18:56

Get straight to a+e! Xx

EachandEveryone · 04/11/2018 18:57

Yes it is.

Definitely go to hospital, hope he is ok.

EachandEveryone · 04/11/2018 18:58

Shes dialling 111. My fathers rip anniversary today as well 😒

HoleyCoMoley · 04/11/2018 18:59

I wouldn't let him drive, he can either ring 111 or 999. He should tell them about his bypass and that its the same leg.

EachandEveryone · 04/11/2018 19:04

Shes ringing 111 and will give them the details shes been to the GP twice sith him this week

I hope they get you seen this evening. I would be quite concerned about that foot.

mysteryfairy · 04/11/2018 19:10

Similar thing happened to me and I went to a go walk in at the advice of my beautician who I had gone to for a pedicure with it. When I was seen by the GP they sent me straight to A and E with a suspected DVT. The tests which ruled out DVT in my case take ages to comeback so go equipped for a wait.

HoleyCoMoley · 04/11/2018 22:53

Hope he is ok

dontknowwhattodo80 · 04/11/2018 22:55

Hope he's ok @EachandEveryone

EachandEveryone · 04/11/2018 23:01

They are keeping him in. I don’t know the details until my mum gets home. Thanks for your advice it seems an ambulance made the world of difference she’s been trying to get someone to listen all week.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 04/11/2018 23:03

Glad his in.

Its not just his foot. Its his ankle and his leg too that is swollen

notapizzaeater · 04/11/2018 23:09

They obviously are concerned. You did the right thing

EachandEveryone · 04/11/2018 23:33

They doctor who referred him tonight is concerned that it’s an infection that could go into the bone so he’s started on IV’s and they’ve admitted him for further tests. Quite an impressive timeline really as my mother is back home having her g and t already!

CartwheelCath · 04/11/2018 23:39

Well I hope he has a straightforward recovery.

HoleyCoMoley · 04/11/2018 23:40

He's in the right place, I hope he feels better soon.
