No, just the sides next to the plates

PinkHeart5914 · 04/11/2018 11:58

No just the side that will be against the toaster plates

Fluffyears · 04/11/2018 11:59

I do both

eltsihT · 04/11/2018 11:59

I don’t butter at all! Just stick in the bread and cheese...

I only butter the outside of the sandwich that’s against the grill plates as inside it doesn’t need it with the melted cheese and makes the outside golden and crispy. Mine are delicious! Grin

Outside only! I wouldn't trust a recipe that suggests pineapple in a toastie anyway.

...now I want a toastie. My DPs used to do cheese and crisp toasties.

missnevermind · 04/11/2018 12:11

I don’t butter either side. But I do spray the plates with spray oil.

flowerpot1000000 · 04/11/2018 12:11

Fave is ham and cheese, DS who isnt a great meat eater loves tuna and cheese so Im thinking protein in both ideal for a toastie so bought one...Lidl today £4!!!!

I don't butter either side because I like cheese inside and that's enough fat.

IStandWithPosie · 04/11/2018 12:16

Oh my goodness it has never occurred to me to butter the outside of the bread!! Shock I’ve always just done the inside like a sandwich. I’m going to try this next time.

Babybearsporij · 04/11/2018 12:38

I do, it makes them more crispy.

Ishouldhaveknown · 04/11/2018 12:40

I butter the side going assist the plates and then spread tomato puree on the 'inside' before adding cheese!

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 04/11/2018 12:43

We don't butter either side. But we don't have a proper toastie maker either. We have a George foreman whose sole job is making toastie... he gets used 2-3 times a week.
