York people - accomodation near a park and ride hub

I'm thinking of a weekend in York in mid Dec but hadn't realised how booked up everywhere would be .

Would like not to drive ( coming from London ) and was wondering if anyone could recommend an area where we could easily access a bus or train to stay a couple of nights and travel into York ?

There is somewhere like Leeds but that is likely to be the sane. Darlington may be a better option, direct from London and then back into York. Not quite as far is Northallerton.

We stay here

yorkcitybreaks.co.uk/

Walking distance from the train station (5 minutes) and less than 10 to the city

There is a premier Inn near clifton Moor that might work for you. There's a park and ride there and it doesn't take long to get into town.

The premier in at Hornbeam park in Harrogate is next to the train station- they share a car park. Trains to York every 30mins. Takes about 45 mins I think (check this). You can get a duo ticket at the weekend so about £15 for a couple return (again check).

There is also a direct train from London to Harrogate at 17.33 each night and on Sunday there is one back late pm. You would then need to get a taxi to hornbeam or wait about 15 mins and cross platform to get 1 back to hornbeam - it is about a 3 min train journey between the 2 stations.

There's a Marriott hotel on the main road into York and there's a bus stop just across the main road that goes into York city centre.

I think the parsonage hotel is on the same road, so should also have frequent buses just across the road.

Or any central hotel in Harrogate is near the station. There is a newish travelodge on tower street or an older one slightly further into town.
