Baby blues. Violent dreams...

StarryEyes5 · 04/11/2018 00:11

2 weeks PP.

Going through the baby blues phase...

Keep having awful dreams about my DC.

Thinks along the lines of him dying in my arms, finding him unconscious in the bath, dropping him head first in concrete etc etc. I have these dreams in the very short sleeps I have between feeds...

How do I cope with this? Is this part of the pp period/hormones?

It's becoming quite distressing...

Hi

I had the same thing when my baby was a newborn. I used to dream that I’d fallen asleep feeding her and she was suffocating in the duvet (or a variation on this). After speaking about it to friends with kids, and my mum, it turns out that dreams like this are pretty common - I wish someone had told me this sooner! For me they stopped after a few weeks, try not to get too wound up about them - I know this is probably easier said than done - they’re probably just a combination of a the hormones, lack of sleep, and your mind processing your new responsibilities. Congratulations on your new baby Flowers

This is anxiety and sleep deprivation. Can you talk with your husband about it, or midwife? And perhaps try to get a full night if possible?

You need to mention it to your midwife/hv. They will have seen and heard at all and can reassure you normality of this is. It's caused by the enormity if the new situation you find yourself in and the weight of responsibility on your shoulders now. Congratulations on your new baby and try not to worry. Xxx

For weeks I would wake up in a panic thinking ds1 was caught in the duvet and suffocating (dp had invariably put him in the moses basket) or I thought he was in a bag on top of the wardrobe which I would be trying to reach to get him down. It resolved itself in the end but do speak to your HV for reassurance. Hope you manage to get a decent stretch of sleep soon.

Yes I had nightmares too. Thankfully they passed. I stopped watching the news which helped.
