FFS washing machine just died. What do you have?

Managed one load of the weekend washing. Now the drum doesn't spin, load of half wet, half dry washing. Fortunately my neighbour let me use her machine to do that load.

So...what machine do you have? How long have you had it and have you had any issues with it or repairs done in that time?

Ours is 5 years old and I fear the cost of repairing will be not worth it.

John Lewis own brand one bought second hand off Facebook as ours packed up when we were skint....had it 2 years and it is brilliant no issues, plenty of cycle options and not to noisy. Would def look at their range when we next need one (hopefully not for a while yet!)

GetRid · 03/11/2018 20:20

Exactly the same problem happened to me recently. It was easily fixable (brushes needed replacing - hence it wouldn't spin) and the repair cost of £90 was way cheaper than buying a new machine!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 03/11/2018 20:20

I'm sure you have, but have you emptied the filter? If the water isn't draining away, it won't spin

Raera · 03/11/2018 20:21

Bosch. Had cheap ones but last two Bosch lasted 10 years each

ButtfaceMiscreant · 03/11/2018 20:23

Samsung 8kg ecobubble (not the one you can add to during the wash). I love it, it's brilliant. Cost around the £300 mark on offer but it's been worth it's money (it replaced another Samsung ecobubble washer dryer which did 5 yrs hard graft with 3 small children including twins). I will always buy Samsung washing machines now

ButtfaceMiscreant · 03/11/2018 20:24

My last Samsung didn't break by the way, we just replaced it as had re-done the kitchen and got a separate tumble dryer, so decided to sell the old washer dryer and get a stand alone washing machine.

TheFairyCaravan · 03/11/2018 20:26

We've got a Bosch. .

We always had Bosch but got a Hotpoint because it could be delivered the next day. It was awful and we were glad it was insured because the repair man was here so often. It was written off after about 3 years so we replaced it with a Bosch.

Tiggles · 03/11/2018 20:27

I had a bosch that was fab but died after about 10years. Was great on water metre.
Now have Samsung eco bubble. So far a brilliant machine but only had a few months

DaysDragonBy · 03/11/2018 20:27

Yes, draining not the issue, can hear the pump working. But cleaned everything out. I've unplugged it at the wall in the hope it might spring back to life tomorrow, but there's no resistance when I spin the drum so I guess that means the drive belt has gone.

Had problems with my drier not all that long ago and they charged me over £200 just to come out and diagnose.

I have a Miele. It’s been the best one so far.

QueenRefusenik · 03/11/2018 20:28

Vote AGAINST Bosch here - just had to replace a pricey one after only 3yrs. We did use it pretty intensively but still...!

Pandasarecute · 03/11/2018 20:28

Samsung eco bubble here too! As recommended on here when I asked the same question as you. It’s very good

LizzieBennettDarcy · 03/11/2018 20:29

We've always gone for "better" and had nothing but problems. Worst ever was a Miele one that cost around £800. Best one is the cheapest - a Zanussi 8kg with a 1600rpm spin. Was about £250 and it's lasted 5 years so far with daily use.

FanSpamTastic · 03/11/2018 20:33

We had a Siemens that lasted 12 years before conking out - 3 kids, on virtually every day.

We replaced it with a Bosch like this here. But no WiFi on ours - can't see why you would need it!

It's very quiet - big drum, lots of cycles. I love the iDOS system. You fill it up with detergent and conditioner and it self doses. You can nudge up if you want a bit more/ bit less or switch off the conditioner eg for towels.

BearFoxBear · 03/11/2018 20:40

I have the same Bosch as FanSpamTastic - its brilliant.

greencatbluecat · 03/11/2018 20:41

Miele. We got rid of first one after 16 years. It was still working but leaking. During that 16 years we averaged about 10 full washes a week.

DrWhy · 03/11/2018 20:43

Samsung Ecobubble quickwash

niknac1 · 03/11/2018 20:46

We’ve had a replacement washing machine recently, got another Bosch, last one lasted 12 years. New Bosch is cheaper than the first but it’s really very good.

I've got a zanussi. Came with 5 year guarantee. Had it 7 years.
I pay £11 a month insurance (covers 3 items) it broke in year 6 - they came out and changed the bearings. Working fine now

nameforthethread · 03/11/2018 20:49

LG inverter direct drive 8Kg, had it 7 years no issues.

prior to the LG we had a stream of hot points, whirlpool, indesit. All crap and broken down a week out of their warranties.

sixtyeleven · 03/11/2018 20:52

Bosch, it came with the flat when I bought it in 2003 and it wasn't new then! Shock

MissRainbowBrite · 03/11/2018 20:57

Bosch here too, been going 4 years with at least 6 loads per week and hasn't skipped a beat.

Ladymargarethall · 03/11/2018 20:57

Our Bosch has just died. Washing machine man told us Bosch are not what they were.
We have gone for a cheap and cheerful Hotpoint. Hope I don't regret it as we use our machine a lot.

welshweasel · 03/11/2018 20:59

Beko 10kg. Does a full load with 1400rpm spin in 28 minutes. Love it.

iamme21 · 03/11/2018 21:01

Same as @nameforthethead, I love my LG direct drive
