FFS washing machine just died. What do you have?

Managed one load of the weekend washing. Now the drum doesn't spin, load of half wet, half dry washing. Fortunately my neighbour let me use her machine to do that load.

So...what machine do you have? How long have you had it and have you had any issues with it or repairs done in that time?

Ours is 5 years old and I fear the cost of repairing will be not worth it.

Bosch, had it 15 years. £400 new, needed a new controller board after 6 years which cost £200. Never less than 10 loads per week. When DGS was weaning we were doing up to 5 per day.

DrWhy · 04/11/2018 10:49

DragonDaysBy the longer wash cycles are to make them comply with new energy efficiency ratings - I think things spend a lot of time soaking. This drove me absolute distraction with the JL one we acquired with the house. I work FT and need to be able to get more than one load through in an evening! Hence my recommendation of the Samsung Ecobubble Quickdrive - the standard synthetics wash is 37 minutes and does a good job, adding an extra soak makes it about an hour. Cottons wash is just over an hour (it was nearly 4 on the JL machine). Very sad but it has changed my life!

I love candy machines. When DH moved into his first flat the owner left the washing machine (it was hot snd cold water feed). It lasted 7 years before taking my clothes hostage. It was a candy andvreally great until that moment andwerecjon itnist have been at least 5 years old when he inherited it. It was massive. So we bought the same make again-candy washer dryer. I bloody loved that machine and left it because new place came with appliances. I got a candy here but I don’t like it as much and I am stuck because I need integrated so can only get certain models.

Fluffyears · 04/11/2018 11:05

Oh and it has 15,30 and 44 minute cycles but I use the one hour cotton programme mostly.

MrsG841 · 04/11/2018 11:23

I have the Samsung 9kg ecobubble with add wash. I'm absolutely in love with it. Of all the machines I have had this is by far the best

ILoveMyMonkey · 04/11/2018 11:38

I agree it sounds like the carbon brushes need replacing (these do wear down to nothing over time and stop the machine spinning even when it still drains). We did ours yesterday and it cost £8. DH followed some youtube videos on how to replace them and now it's working like new again, this is the second time he's replaced the brushes, the first time we did it was about 6 years ago so it is worth trying that as it will save you a lot of money.

wonkylegs · 04/11/2018 12:40

Bosch logixx 8 - not to complicated or clever but washes well
Ours is 10years old and gets pretty intensive use and is still going strong.
I think the more complicated the machine the more likely you are to have problems my mum has an all singing and dancing Bosch which gets very light use and has been more problematic (that may be her though as she's tend to break appliances by just being in their vicinity)

DaysDragonBy · 04/11/2018 16:29

I think the more complicated the machine the more likely you are to have problems

I think this too! Automatic dosing - just something else to go wrong! WiFi? Why??? It's not like I can load the machine remotely!

We got a beko. 9kg load. It’s fab. Still on the Curry’s website I believe. Can do a full load at 1400 spin in 38 mins. I think its quicker if you press the fast plus button too.

ThunderOnlyHappens · 04/11/2018 16:54

We have the Samsung ecobubble which is fab, the build quality is great imo.

When we went to curry's they said that Bosch are no longer German and not recommended anymore which surprised.

Miele are the best but cost a lot. Will be aiming for one the next time if we can afford it!

Daisymay2 · 04/11/2018 17:03

Currently have a 2 and half year old AEG, Its fine, does a 90C wash and you can reduce temperature and cycle length. Main sourse of irritation are the morons who keep writing to me nagging me to renew my warrenty. It came with a standard 2 year but bought it in JL who did an free extended warrenty to 5 years!
We had a Bosch for 18 years previously- but husband and son did a brush replacement after about 15 years. We did a problem spotting questionaire on Which website I think and then replaced after watching video on line. Worth a look.
Didn't buy a Bosch as we had previously been warned that the ones made in Spain ( I think) are not a good as the German made ones and the model I was looking at was Spanish .
Prior to than I had a Zanussi which lasted about 14 years.

Racecardriver · 04/11/2018 17:04

Zanusi. Five years no issues. Very cheap so will replace it whenever it goes.

Ladymargarethall · 05/11/2018 06:39

Just bought a Hotpoint and the cycles are very, very long. 3 hours for the anti stain wash! Dread to think how long the anti allergy programme will be.😕

Curlypop · 05/11/2018 06:47

My indesit washer died recently. Got a Bosch to replace it and it cleans so much better.

DaysDragonBy · 05/11/2018 07:10

Vitalogy
We live in flats so all have the same machines. She refused a bottle of wine so said if she ever has problems with hers, she can ask me!

It's not the first time we've had issues with it, DH doesn't want to repair it and was the one who suggested I got a new one. So as he's offering Grin We've gone for a Bosch, with a larger drum. I'd have preferred a Miele but the larger ones are too expensive.

Ladymargarethall · 05/11/2018 08:46

A lot of the ones we liked the look of were too wide for our space. The first thing we did was eliminate any over 59.5cm wide, which rules out quite a few popular models. 😕

carrie74 · 05/11/2018 09:09

Bosch 8years old, still going strong, I do about 10-12 loads a week. I think it was toppish end Bosch, not the best, maybe next one down. I think it was the Logixx if they're still using those brandings. I love it.

DaysDragonBy · 05/11/2018 09:16

Ours is in an open room, so no width issue. I'm not 100% sure if my tumbler will fit on top.... There's no info at all about sizing of the connection units etc. It says which ones are compatible but doesn't give the dimensions. Really useful. But if it doesn't we can always make a stand somehow.

schooltripsfromhell · 05/11/2018 09:18

Bosch.

My old one lasted 10 years and that was with me tanking it with up to 20 loads a week at one point. It did die a death though but we had been warned it was on its way out.

Replaced it with another Bosch which so far, so good. Does take 2h43 to do a star dead cotton wash but this can be shortened if necessary

schooltripsfromhell · 05/11/2018 09:18

Star dead = standard

Santaisgettingbusy · 05/11/2018 09:21

Replacing the belt would be peanuts!!

Kattatty87 · 06/11/2018 19:34

@DaysDragonBy we've just ordered this bosch serie 6 WAT28450GB 9 kg 1400 Spin Washing Machine

We are also in a flat with open plan and this comes really highly recommended as the spin is apparently almost silent (we shall see!)

Ps if you're in the Hertfordshire area i have a washer dryer stacker!
