Fireworks and baby question

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked already, a quick glance didn't bring anything up. DH, DS (19 weeks) and I are going to a firework display next weekend. It'll be a medium affair with a bonfire, stalls and a big display.

Just wondering if it would be sensible to get some ear defenders for DS or if it'll be fine. We'll be wrapping him up in his pram and taking the sling in case he wants one of us but not sure about noise. What have others done?

Thanks in advance

I was going to take my 7 month old to a display tonight but decided against it as I can hear it from my house! I'd definitely get the ear defenders - I'd forgotten how noisy fireworks are.

DevonshireCreamTea · 03/11/2018 19:34

No it will be fine lol

I'd get ear defenders. I had my 7 week old in a sling with ear defenders last year and she was fine but there were a few other screaming babies there.

Ear defenders are 2.99 fron screw fix this week. Even if you dont use them at that price handy to grab some.

DD was 6 months when I took her to the fireworks last year. She had ear defenders and was perfectly content whereas other babies around us weren't happy. It might be a coincidence but for the price of a pair of ear defenders I'd just do it.

DD would be using her ear defenders again this year but we can't go to the fireworks as we're housebound after a sick bug 🙁

Thanks for the responses, I think I will get some then, even the crowd noise can be fairly loud I suppose.

Hope your little one is feeling better soon @INeedNewShoes

Gosh, I am clearly a terrible parent. I took my dc to a fireworks display a few years ago, youngest was about 12 weeks old and in a moby wrap. It didn’t even occur to me to take ear defenders for them. Mind you, I am rather large of busy so maybe my boobies were sufficiently muffling!!

ATowelAndAPotato · 03/11/2018 22:18

Large of bust, not busy! Thanks autocarrot!

I’m feeling guilty too. Took DS1 (now 6) at about three weeks to one. He slept happily through it. And the next years in his buggy.

hugoagogo · 03/11/2018 22:25

I waited to take mine until he was nearly four and he was a bit worried even then and we had to back off a bit.
I can't imagine going with a baby.Confused

Took baby DD to one tonight. She had ear defenders on and loved it!

FollyPolly · 03/11/2018 22:33

I took my 16 week old tonight and he was very happy. She was in a sling, looked a bit startled at the first bang but then just loved the lights in the sky. A picture of wonder!

I didn't even think about ear defenders Blushthough we do live in a busy house with teenagers so maybe she's more accustomed to noisiness...

3boysandabump · 03/11/2018 22:42

I never bothered with ear defenders for any of mine
