They are dry, cracked and bloody sore.

Vaseline with aloe vera aint doing anything, if anything they feel worse.

What do you use/recommend?

Carmex is the only thing that works for mine. So they have another vote!

GoldenBuns · 03/11/2018 21:05

Just plain Vaseline. Put it on last thing at night, before you get into bed.

m.clinique.co.uk/product/1683/50484/skin-care/eye-lip-care/pep-starttm-pout-restoring-night-mask

It’s this one @SheWhoDaresGins2 Debenhams have 15% off at the min but I couldn’t find it on their website but you get 10% off Clinique I think on your first order. It’s honestly the best I’ve ever tried, including most of the ones suggested, I have heard good things about the nuxe one through although I haven’t tried

Yep, second nipple cream. Great stuff when your lips are a mess.

LIZS · 03/11/2018 21:18

Blistex

MotherofPearl · 03/11/2018 21:18

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is great for this. I put on loads before bed. They also do an 8 hour cream lip balm which is less sticky, but I think less effective.

muchalover · 03/11/2018 21:21

Drink more water. Seriously.

timeforachangemethinks · 03/11/2018 21:22

@SheWhoDaresGins2 if you’re going to go for this one make sure you go for the night mask one, they do another one that is jst a normal lip balm but called something similar it’s no where near as good as the night mask one. The night mask one is in a tube and the other one is like a lipstick.

Another one who uses bepanthen. Particularly as a barrier before I cycle in the cold - prevention rather than cure - and very good if the skin around my mouth gets sore.

Blister relief cream for actual sore lips.
Welcome to winter folks.

Mummaluelae · 03/11/2018 21:23

I get. Coldsores quite frequently and sun cream works wonders, and leaves my lips nice and soft too. Vaseline doesn't seem to work for me!

www.boots.com/blistex-medplus-repairing-lip-balm-spf15-7ml-10165250

This is the only stuff that has ever worked for me!

IfeelFloopy · 03/11/2018 21:52

I came on to say the same as a previous poster. Vaseline will dry, not moisturise in the long run. I used to use it and thought I could not live without it because my lips were always so bad. Until I read a piece in a magazine explaining why. I think it’s the same for carmex too.

I use a Nivea lip balm. In a navy blue stick. Moisturises and relieves sore lips really fast.

SheWhoDaresGins2 · 03/11/2018 21:54

muchalover I drink 4-5 litres of water a day. Im not dehydrated.

I'm a fan on Nuxe. I bout it 6 months ago and still have loads left.

LockedOutOfMN · 03/11/2018 22:01

There is an Origins product in a small tube, a bit like superglue. It stings a little, for a second, when you put it on, but it works like a dream. You only need one or possibly two applications and within half a day lips are back to normal. It's not greasy.

I'll try to remember the name. It's a bit pricey but it works perfectly and the tiny tube lasts a long, long time.

LockedOutOfMN · 03/11/2018 22:02

This one. Can't recommend it more strongly.

WhyAmISoCold · 03/11/2018 22:09

I get this problem too. Cymex is pretty good but I usually use No7 lip care. Tiny tube that is £10 but I'm still on the one I got in last year's advent calendar. Tiny bit is all that's needed before bed. I find some lipsticks make it much worse but I can't not wear lipstick.

lizzie1970a · 03/11/2018 22:25

Blistex or Blisteze as I still call it. The small tube one with the red lid. If your lips are cracked and bleeding it'll sting like mad but within an hour it'll have worked its magic.

PinkHeart5914 · 03/11/2018 22:27

You need burts bees! Works wonders I tell you, wonders

AnnieOH1 · 03/11/2018 22:32

O'Keefes (working hands) do an amazing lip balm - wouldn't use anything else now.

PippilottaLongstocking · 03/11/2018 22:35

Lanolin (lansinoh or lanolips)

Time40 · 03/11/2018 22:35

Blistex Intensive, for real trouble. The one a pp posted a link to. Brilliant stuff. Carmex for after the real trouble has cleared up.

EnidButton · 03/11/2018 22:43

Lansinoh lanolin nipple cream. Purple tube in a box in the baby section of Boots. Hands down the absolute best thing for cracked, chapped lips. Promise.

After years of trying everything else I put a layer of this on every night and haven't had even slightly dry lips since.

(Vaseline creates a barrier which protects from the weather and locks in existing moisture but it doesn't add any moisture or oils. So it gives a temporary relief feeling but won't speed up healing or change anything.)

EnidButton · 03/11/2018 22:45

Sorry hadn't read the thread properly Blush See others have explained the Vaseline thing.

Lanolin is the holy grail though.

PosiePerkinandPootle · 03/11/2018 22:57

Lansinoh is amazing, also worked wonders on all my DC's sucky thumbs. Tried it after a flash of inspiration whenDD1's thumb was red raw and my mum said "but what can you use that won't harm her if she ingests it?"
