Isn’t Alan Rickman so bloody lovely?

Great film.

TheOnly there’s that scene where Jennifer Ehle and Colin Girth exchange that glance over the piano forte.

Acting at its finest (or real life lust that was on camera).

Ooh Mr DarcyWink

love this film too, it's perfect (imo) funny to see lucy boynton so young too

AnotherEmma · 02/11/2018 19:21

Anyone who think Emma Thompson is too old to play Elinor but Alan Rickman is not too old to play Brandon has double standards. Brandon is old but not as old an Rickman was when it was filmed.

TheOnly
I was very sniffy about the new P&P film, as I didn’t think they could possibly improve on the BBC version, and I hate Kiera Knightley, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. There was lots I liked about it actually (not Kiera though!)

HolyMountain · 02/11/2018 19:21

Andy I love Ciaran Hinds.

oh getting my tv and film mixed up, quite liked the tv version too as it had david morrissey in it

AnotherEmma · 02/11/2018 19:25

I love Emma with Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong. We still quote the line “badly done, Emma, badly done” Grin

Celledora · 02/11/2018 19:26

Yes. Alan in everything.

MsTSwift · 02/11/2018 19:30

Sorry but always felt it was AR that was too old. He seems like Kate winslets dad.

whatsthestory123 · 02/11/2018 19:32

a couple of sundays i have been watching call the midwife then followed by Pride and predudice same channel perfect Sunday afternoon tv

last one this Sunday

RedLemonade · 02/11/2018 19:34

Adore S&S.

I always wonder though; They imply Mrs Dashwood is 40 when discussing Colonel Brandon and, separately, John and Fanny talk about her life not being worth “half such a purchase” as 15 years.

Were life expectancies really less than 50 at that time? Seems remarkably low for someone apparently in robust health! Any insights from Regency enthusiasts??

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 02/11/2018 19:35

God yes.

Way hotter than willow bee.

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 02/11/2018 19:35

Especially in RHPOT

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/11/2018 19:36

Brandon is meant to be about 35 max?

Ohyesiam · 02/11/2018 19:39

Theonly I don’t like the clunky old bbc p&p either. But I really love the Latest film version, especially Kiera.
I love watching for the differences/ similarities between the screenplay and the book( yes I think I do know it off by heart....) . I always get the dvd out for a duvet dayGrin.

BUT last time I noticed the Alternative American Ending in the extras bit and it is a truly cringe scene that made me feel so for the actors having to deliver those lines.
Austin would have been spinning in her grave.

Lolly86 · 02/11/2018 19:42

I love love love this adaptation...it's one of my comfort films too

TheDowagerCuntess · 02/11/2018 20:03

Everyone is too old in this adaption - especially Mrs Dashwood and Brandon - but it doesn't stop it from being absolutely delightful.

The BBC series that has Mathew Crawley (can't remember his real name) as Edward is more realistic age-wise, and it's enjoyable, but it's not as good.

Alan is magic as Brandon.

To your sister, I wish every imaginable happiness. To Willoughby, that he endeavours to deserve her.

PuppyMonkey · 02/11/2018 20:10

Oh yes I love this film too - couldn’t give a flying toss what age everyone is really supposed to be. Who bloody cares, when they act it all so brilliantly.

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 02/11/2018 20:11

Yeah, as if he's some old bachelor

He's one sexy bloke

HolyMountain · 02/11/2018 20:26

Who described the bbc adaption of P+P as ‘clunky’.Shock

It was set over a number of weeks for tv and truly divine.

Confused

I really don't know how to respond to this besides what on earth is wrong with you? You must be the only person in the world who a] dislikes 'clunky old bbc p & p and b] not only loves the film version but especially wooden grimacing 'acts with her teeth' Keira Knightley!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/11/2018 20:50

I can't stand the BBC P&P and love the KK one - except for Mr Bennet's teeth.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/11/2018 20:58

Maybe the "clunky" BBC adaptation being referred to is the one from the 80s rather than the Firth version?

TheDowagerCuntess · 02/11/2018 21:09

The ONLY good thing about the 2005 version is Rosamund Pike as Jane.

Donald Sutherland is hilarious desperate.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/11/2018 21:10

A friend of a friend was in that P&P. Said Donald asked her if he could stick his finger in her armpit and horn sniff it. She declined...

dapplegrey · 02/11/2018 21:14

Marianne always gets on my nerves,
I think Marianne is very irritating.
