Anyone bought a kids smart watch like kidsnav...?

user1471530109 · 02/11/2018 14:33

And got any reviews or suggestions?

My eldest DD is 9 and has asked for a Fitbit or fitness tracker. But in searching I have found these watches that do this, plus have GPS and the function for her to receive texts and calls from a set number of telephone numbers.
Imo she is too young for a phone. But I really like the idea of being able to know where she is and contact her now that she is going out playing on her own (admittedly this has stopped now it's colder etc).

Has anyone bought one and happy with it? I've been looking at a few but kidsnav seem the trendy type she would like (currently not in stock).
Or are they a gimmick and don't work? They don't seem expensive?

Many thanks

Anyone bought a kids smart watch like kidsnav...?

I'm struggling as u are with the same issue. I haven't tried any before though. There was the 'pearchild' watch a couple of years ago, which seemed good and stylish, but doesn't seem to be in market anymore. The kidsnav seems to me to be the best, yet I couldn't find real customer reviews. Moreover, on amazon I found several such products with the same watch pictures and same functions & description yet under different other brand names. The sellers that respond to customer questions do so with a 'not so good' English, and in a lot of cases some of the product info is typed in Chinese... So do not seem like professional companies... and reviews are so varied... So far I failed to find any product that is trustworthy, professional, of good reviews, and with the features I'm looking for (good GPS tracking, calls, easy to use)...

I have the KidsNav for ds, it gives me peace of mind when he's playing out. However the battery lasts max 1 hour!

KiDSnav · 13/11/2018 12:17

Hi everyone, I hope you're all well. This post was alerted to me yesterday so thought it would be great to sign up! NellieBee, please email us if your watch is lasting an hour. There's probably a setting that needs to be changed on your watch (so it doesn't update coordinates every minute and drain the battery).

I understand that there is alot of confusion when it comes to GPS watches, and I understand that there are many sellers of watches that look similar. Please note that our watches are priced well, because we buy in bulk from our manufacturer, and also, we don't use the free Chinese app that all other sellers use. Not only do we source our watches from the leading manufacturer (in the world), we also work closely with the best app development team, and we're able to offer an app (that would normally cost around £30) for free *

We also offer watches for all age groups. The Venture range is the cheapest, and aimed at 2-8 year olds, and most of our other models are aimed at 5-12 year olds.

At this time, we ONLY sell through Kidsnav.com. So please be aware of cheap imitations, should you look for a watch elsewhere.

Our watches are used with a Pay As You Go sim card, so unlike other companies, there is no monthly subscription fee. So you're not being charged for when the watch isn't being used.

Please feel free to drop us an email if you're looking for a GPS watch for your child(ren) and we'll be more than happy to help!

Many thanks

Laura

Hi Laura
I’d really appreciate some help with my KidsNav purchases. I’ve bought two watches, topped up the SIM cards with £20 each and tried to link them to the app you suggest on my phone using the correct ID for each watch and the correct phone number for each watch in an area with reception, to no avail. We have contacted the website and we are getting no help to set up as the person responding is not making sense (they clearly do not speak English well) and keep talking about the clock. We have spent hours trying to get the watches ready for my little girls birthday (today) and have given up. Can you offer any help or am I now going to have to fight for a refund and have two SIM cards worth £20 each that I have no need of? Please advise...

KiDSnav · 18/11/2018 14:38

Hi Linda,

I'm sorry to hear this

We'll be able to fix this issue for you. Could you please email us - [email protected]

Kind regards

Laura

Hi Laura, I hope no one minds me jumping on.
I’m wondering does the KiDSnav Classic – Rose Gold have a txt messaging facility?
And also does it have a classroom mode where you can set times so the watch/phone can disturb them?
Thank you. x

Lindastep · 23/11/2018 21:36

Hi Laura
Just wanted to say thanks for sending out new watches. The others will be with you soon. The new watches seem to be working and took only a short time to set up (thank god! 😆). They look good 👍🏻

KiDSnav · 23/11/2018 21:50

Hi Linda,

That's great news, thanks for letting me know, and apologies again for the original watches. To anyone who is reading this thread, our manufacturer accidentally shipped us around 10 watches where a special encryption code was not removed (meaning that the watches couldn't pair/connect to the app we use), and Linda was unlucky enough to receive 2 of the 10 watches, something we can't apologize enough for. A problem that was solved immediately and procedures are now in place so this can't happen again.....

Tissues12 - Sadly, none of the watches are able to text, but you're able to text the watch from the app (which is on the parents phone)....however, the watches are able to send voice messages back to the app, as well as have 2 way voice calls. The Rose Gold is a good choice. They are very popular! :)

Any further questions, please drop me an email - [email protected]

Many thanks, and have a lovely weekend

Tissues12 · 23/11/2018 22:54

That’s great, thank you! x

Be careful of these fitbit watches and the like, especially with children, they emit EMF radiation and have been linked to cancer.
A quick google search will show you lots of people reporting side effects from them.

Jamie147 · 01/12/2018 09:21

Hi Laura,

I read your reply and as you ONLY sell through Kidsnav.com, I just ordered a watch at £42 + £5 delivery.

My friend has now sent me a link to Amazon where I could have bought the watch for £36 with free delivery.

www.amazon.co.uk/9Tong-Childrens-Smartwatch-Chatting-Activity-Pink/dp/B078W5JZ1Q/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=kidsnav&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1543655972&sr=8-1

Why does it cost more to go to you direct?

Thanks,

Jamie

KiDSnav · 04/12/2018 12:56

Hi Jamie,

Although we have exchanged emails this morning, I thought other people viewing the thread would like to know the answer:

Our app, to buy alone, would cost around £40. When a Kidsnav GPS watch is purchased from our website, this app is included FREE. So the watch you purchased at £42 actually has a value of nearly £80. We're also a UK based company that can offer support, something of which the Amazon sellers can't offer at our level.

The chances are, if you're buying a GPS watch from Amazon, Wowcher, eBay etc, you will be asked to download a Chinese app called 'Setracker' (we'll let you do the research on that app)

I hope this helps. I don't check this thread often, so please email us direct at [email protected]

Many thanks

Hi Laura/Kidsnav

I'm looking for a comprehensive list of features for the watches. The website home page has features listed, but are these for ALL watches? I'm most interested in the junior (5-12) range.

Thanks 😊

KiDSnav · 05/12/2018 19:12

Hi,

Thanks for your comment. Have a look at our new web page, it will help loads (and it includes videos of our watches too!)...

www.kidsnav.com/the-right-watch

Thanks :)

Chapp06 · 05/12/2018 19:47

Yes, I've seen it and that's what's caused the confusion as the features listed on the Home page aren't featured on the videos???

KiDSnav · 05/12/2018 19:59

Hi,

Thanks for your comment. To make things clearer, all Kidsnav watches have ALL the features you see on the home page (2 way calling, pedometer etc)...but there are some watches that don't have a removal sensor (the info is in the link I sent you).

We'll try and make it more clear on the website, as I appreciate it can be quite confusing. Any questions, please don't hesitate to drop us an email - [email protected]

Many thanks
Laura

Chapp06 · 06/12/2018 16:41

Thank you, that is great!

user1471530109 · 06/12/2018 16:47

OP here,

I didn't purchase in the end. It was the headlines at the time (BBC) of the GPS signal being hacked that put me off.

I bought her a Fitbit for her bday instead.

I don’t recommend kidsnav
We ordered for Christmas present and can’t get it set up, I’ve also asked to return it and have been told I can’t as it was purchased out of the month return date which most people do buy Christmas presents early to be organised... waste of £45!

Granda · 16/01/2019 16:05

I bought a watch from Kidsnav for my granddaughters 6th birthday. After a couple of weeks the battery would not hold it's charge. I contacted company and was told they would send a replacement. After a week there was no sign of this and chased them again.I then got the replacement but after another few weeks the same problem occurred. On complaining to company I was told that 3 month warranty was now up and there was nothing else they could do. Obviously they don't have enough faith in their product to only offer a 3 month warranty, where most other companies will offer a year. Would not recommend this product.

KiDSnav · 16/01/2019 16:29

As explained in our FAQ, the battery life with GPS watches is about a day. It's like opening the 'maps' app on your iphone and leaving it open...you'll notice that the battery drains very quickly.

Sadly, this customer has not read our returns policy before they made the purchase and are now trying to harm our business.

The customer has two watches, that are in good working order, but they just need to change the settings on the app, so that the watches aren't searching for GPS coordinates every 180 seconds, which is a default setting.

We're fair in our returns policy. We offer a period of one month after the purchase date, where a customer can return their watch, if it's not for them.

Many thanks

Granda · 16/01/2019 18:20

I am not trying to harm your company but am giving an honest feedback which any customer is entitled to do. What you fail to mention is that it was only in your 3rd email that you mentioned about changing the settings on the app. In addition when I queried the battery life on my first email, Laura agreed that the charge should last more than 6 hours hence the replacement.

KiDSnav · 16/01/2019 19:09

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and you're more than welcome to give an honest feedback.

The battery should last for more than 6 hours, but as explained, the battery life factors on many things with (all) GPS watches. If the app is set to search for GPS coordinates every 30 seconds, it's going to drain the battery very quickly, just like if the pedometer is constantly on.

As mentioned on a previous message. Customers have a whole month from purchase to decide if the watch suits their needs, and if it doesn't, a full refund will be issued

Warm regards
