Food recycling foxes HELP!

Boring thread alert!

They've changed bin collection methods round here.

We have one of those little brown kitchen buckets for food waste. You take the compostable bag out when full and pop it into big brown bucket outside. It has a lid and a lock system. The lid locks with the handle in upright position.

The other night I was woken twice by noises outside. First time I ran out side to see big bucket has been taken down the road and fox is watching me. I put bucket back on our path. Second time I run out to find big bucket down the street again but tipped so the handle has released the lock and the Fox has taken the full food bags off to enjoy somewhere.

Temporary measure I'm storing the bucket in an old dustbin. But what do I do when the bin gets emptied by council? How do I stop fox from able to open bin but still emptied by rubbish collectors? Dh says use masking tape but I bet the council won't like that! Anyone any ideas?

Tia.

We put a brick on top.

Excellent! I hope it works. I was amazed at the strength of the fox to lift the box handle with its teeth! And amazed at the rubbish lock design fox opened so easily. 😏

We have the same problem with cats, seagulls and magpies!
