Help me diagnose my bastard freezer

It's like the fucking tundra in there right now...again.

Perhaps I never got the memo on freezers, but I can't figure out what's wrong with mine...and what or whom I need to sacrifice to make it play nicely.

It's an under-counter three drawer freezer...which is largely half empty. I just store ice cubes, bit of frozen veg, frozen fruit...all in the packaging those things come in (plastic bags) slashed open.

Every week the drawers freeze over and I'm hacking away at built up ice, like a frigging Everest explorer, just to get the drawers to slide open.

Is there too much in the freezer? Too little? Is it me?!

Does it have auto defrost? How old is it?

Knittedfrog · 02/11/2018 11:13

Might be because it's so empty. Just store some empty containers in in to fill it out.

It's because it's empty - fill it up with nice stuff lol!!

It's not a -80oC freezer is it, these literally Make snow ❄️

This can happen when the door doesn't close properly- leaving a tiny gap.
Warm damp air gets in and causes the build up of frost.
I would defrost, clean the seals and try again.

Christ, it's at least 8 years old, I'd say. It's pretty basic so I'm going to guess there's no auto-defrost.

Will give it a full manual defrost and clean. Perhaps burn some sage. Offer up a virgin etc etc.

And then buy more food for it!

Thanks!
