Old wallpaper

Just started ripping down some old wallpaper to reveal numerous layers, each more hideous than the last. The house was built before 1860 at least.

Is there any way of telling how old wallpaper is?

The V&A www.vam.ac.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhcuqreKz3gIVjpztCh1UdwIFEAAYASAAEgJRUPD_BwE might be able to help, assuming you have photos of all the layers of wallpaper?

I'd love to know too!!

@Heuschrecke have sent them an email today so will keep you updated! A couple of the layers definitely look like some early or primitive printing machine was used

Inherited my house. Recently decorating, think i peeled off at least 7 layers. Last one had a line of dashes on it so looks like it was sold as a sheet to cut to size. Possibly 50's.
