Scared! Previous ectopic pregnancy & now pregnant again...please HELP

Hi mums! My name's Lia and I am new to mumsnet.com, I have recently found out that I am pregnant, I have visited my GP and been given my vitamins and I am taking them religiously.

Despite this I really am worried about my pregnancy as last year I suffered from an ectopic pregnancy, I was part of a medical trial "Gem 3" which means I was administered methotrexate and gefitinib (to which I was allergic and reacted horribly); my concerns are that a) I'm terrified of having another ectopic pregnancy, b) miscarrying or loosing my baby in someway (because I'm scared that my body may still be too weak) c) for my child not to develop or have some form of defects.

I am currently 3 weeks+ pregnant (according to the clear blue pregnancy tests I have taken), I do feel nausea but have only physically vomitted once; I'm petrified that this somehow is a sign that my pregnancy isn't healthy

Please help or give me your thoughts x

Firstly, I am sorry for your previous loss, and congratulations on the new pregnancy.

I felt awful up to 14 weeks with my current pregnancy, but was never actually sick. And scans at 10 and 12 weeks showed baby growing as should (am 19 weeks now, so just waiting on the anomaly scan). So don't take a lack of symptoms as a sign that things are not right.
Due to your history, would your GP possibly refer you for an early, reassurance scan?

If there is a problem, obviously you can't change what has already happened, but if your anxiety is overwhelming, and early scan may be beneficial. Worth asking about, anyway.

I hope all goes well for you.

Sorry for your loss & Congratulations

I want to reassure you that i had a few miscarriages and then i had an ectopic pregnancy, i was taken to theatre to remove the pregnancy.
That was at the beginning of August, by the end of august i had a positive pregnancy test again, initially i thought it was left over hormone but it turned out to be a new pregnancy. I like you was scared, but it all went well and despite it being a difficult pregnancy with loads of complications none of this was related to the previous ectopic pregnancy and i went on to have a healthy baby.
If possible i would advise trying to get an early scan to put your mind at rest around the 6 week mark you should see a heartbeat in the correct place. I got scans on the NHS due to previous losses but i also paid for private scans inbetween the NHS ones because i kept convincing myself that something was going to go wrong !
Good luck and i hope it all goes well for you

Thank you so much for your responses! I will definitely ask my GP about an early referral scan, I feel really overwhelmed and think it would help if I was to seek further medical help.

Thank you again, congrats to both of you too

I had an ectopic in Holland after 2 normal births. Hospital removed one tube and one ovary. Fertility doctor in USA (where we were at that time) said Id be unlikely to have any more children. I had 5 more - all healthy and very good weights. Try not to worry.

zazasabore · 01/11/2018 14:04

....and of those 5 two were twin boys born when I was 41 - now huge, 6'10" and 6'6"

Can you request a scan at the EPU? Some do self-referral and some the GP has to refer. I've been in your position and was convinced it would be another Ectopic but I now have a 9 month old. I asked for a scan early on because I had a lot of pain. I had pregnancy symptoms whereas with the ectopic I didn't have anything really. Good luck.

So sorry to hear that you had an ectopic pregnancy, yet the fact that you had successful pregnancies just shows that there is a silver lining for every cloud! So glad to hear that you are doing great now x

Good luck tomorrow. I had an ectopic and methotrexate. Got pregnant again 3 months later and it is terrifying. All was well and my DD is now 1

ClinkyMonkey · 08/11/2018 00:29

I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago and had a tube removed. When I got pregnant again, I remember being so anxious that the same thing would happen, especially as I had no pregnancy symptoms, other than an absence of periods. I had an early scan and everything was fine. On my way home from the scan, I started feeling really sick. Pregnancy symptoms decided to kick in!

Hope your scan goes well.
