Im a chef new in the job in a place with a vendetta from previous owners /staff and im gutted, I take such pride in my work and it took me a long time to gain the courage to go back to it, people keep posting negative things in trip advisor, booking tables and not showing up, and tonight sending back food that wasn't even tasted, I'm only new and under review and it's just so bad, I'm damn good at what I do, it was cooked to perfection, I just am deflated,

Would you send this back?

Look for another job. It's not your battle, it's not your war. Do not get dragged down by it.

CookieSwirlC · 31/10/2018 20:11

Looks lovely, did they say why they sent it back?

Pringlemunchers · 31/10/2018 20:11

Why did the customer say they wanted to send it back ?

LadyDeadpool · 31/10/2018 20:12

What is it?

mollymcguire · 31/10/2018 20:12

Said the chips looked crap, never tasted never even looked, chips are home cut proper chips,

OP posts:
mollymcguire · 31/10/2018 20:13

It's gammon, egg and pineapple!

OP posts:
Bombardier25966 · 31/10/2018 20:13

What have they said is wrong with it?

Not sure if it's the pic but there's a disproportionate amount of peas on there!

mollymcguire · 31/10/2018 20:14

It's the pic! It's only a little ramekin! I enlarged the pic for better view!

The chips look oily. Not helped by being under the gammon.

It looks like perfectly good food gone bad by poor presentation/ assembly. There's no need to stack things up.

TroysMammy · 31/10/2018 20:16

I would have to remove the gammon off the chips to cut the fat off the meat. Wouldn't it be better to have the chips in a separate dish instead of the peas? I know peas have a mind of their own though. Is that an egg on top of the gammon? Usually people have egg or pineapple not both.

I'd eat it though.

VillanellesBrownWig · 31/10/2018 20:17

Looks bloody delicious to me (apart from the less but I would say I don't want them when ordering), I'll come and eat it!

Laska5772 · 31/10/2018 20:17

Yum.. id wolf that double quick ...
Id look for another place to go where there isnt a previous bad reputation..

mollymcguire · 31/10/2018 20:17

Customer ordered both! Not my taste but it's what was asked for!

OP posts:
LadyDeadpool · 31/10/2018 20:17

Sorry the second pictures weren't there when I asked but it looks amazing. I'd be pleased if I ordered that. Chips under the gammon is good - chips soaking up gammon grease. Yummy. There's room to move the gammon to cut it up. I'd certainly not be sending it back untasted at least.

VillanellesBrownWig · 31/10/2018 20:18

Peas not less!

Laska5772 · 31/10/2018 20:18

Presentation is fine id say ..

Cachailleacha · 31/10/2018 20:19

I wouldn't want the food stacked up like that!

mollymcguire · 31/10/2018 20:20

Gammon cooked on a griddle pan, really well cooked, chips were bone dry, not greasy lovely and crisp on outside, floury soft on inside, i have it to another customer and he polished the lot!

OP posts:
mollymcguire · 31/10/2018 20:22

I always plate like that on a larger plate, I think it looks good, but it's personal choice, maybe I should change to flat and boring!

I’m not a fussy eater at all but if paying expect the meal to reflect the price.
Unless the food looked hideous I’d taste it at least.
It’s hard to know what the standard is which your customers expect ie what type of establishment you cook in. I’d ask the customer what they disliked and offer to replace it. It’s the best way to get honest feedback. As hard as it may be to take, take the critic gracefully. It will help you become an even better and more confident chef.,

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but the meal looks like gammon, chunky chips and poached egg with peas? The rind on the gammon looks quite big so could you remove it for presentation?
It looks as though it’s cooked well, but maybe the presentation could be improved with a little more finesse? I hasten to add, I have the presentation skills of a lump of clay. I am not judging you, but apparently we eat with our eyes nowadays and so we’ve all become fussy buggers. Maybe trawl the internet for ideas. Hope this helps. I’d definately eat the meal and pay for it happily.

AssassinatedBeauty · 31/10/2018 20:23

I don't personally like food piled up like that, but if it tasted nice I would be forgiving about that. I certainly wouldn't send it back without trying it, unless it was obviously raw/undercooked/burnt etc. which this isn't.

MrsChollySawcutt · 31/10/2018 20:23

Hang on, what now? You served the dish that was sent back by a customer to a different paying customer?

Please tell me you're joking or you mean you served exactly the same order to another customer not that actual plate of possibly already tasted food.

Jezebelz · 31/10/2018 20:24

How much did they pay for it?

I would be happy to pay between £8-12 for that depending whether you are north or south. Looks tasty.

If I'd paid £15+ in a fancy restaurant I would be a bit disappointed but still wouldn't sent it back.

JosellaPlayton · 31/10/2018 20:24

They haven’t even tried a chip by the look of it! I mean they look like they might be a little greasy (sorry) but impossible to know whether or not they’re delicious before even trying them. What are your management saying about this? Are they contacting trip advisor to remove the malicious reviews and supporting you? Unless they’ve got a plan to deal with all of this then their business won’t last long anyway so looking for another job might your best plan long term. Good luck.
