Has anyone had a flu jab yet and if Yes, any reaction to it?

Had one last year, no after effects at all. However, I understand this is a new improved version that may make you feel a bit off. Has anyone had it yet?

I've had it every year for a while now. Including 7 year ago when I was pregnant. Never had a problem with it.

Had it a few weeks ago (pregnant again) and the next day my arm from shoulder to elbow was bright red and swollen and I couldnt lift it - not great as a fitness instructor 🤣 by day three the swelling had gone down to just a red ring from where the needle went in and day 5 back to normal.

Other than that I was fine and I'd take that couple of days of soreness over the flu any day!

Ruby55n · 30/10/2018 20:50

I have had mine every year but still managed to get pneumonia twice, in both 2016 and early 2018, so a fat lot of good the jab did for me!

Tiredmum100 · 30/10/2018 21:23

Had mine yesterday. Other than a slightly sore site I wouldn't have known I've had it.

Ruby, there's now a pneumonia vaccine, you may want to ask your gp about it.

I had mine last week. My arm was slightly sore the first day as I expected but 24 hours later I had a bit of a sore throat, sore eyes & a few aches & pains, and felt a bit off for a couple of days. It was odd as I've been getting the jab for years & never had the slightest reaction before.

Deathraystare · 31/10/2018 08:09

Yeah had mine in September. Funny thing is they don't usually say about side effects. This time they mentioned pains in the arm. However, I have rheumatoid arthritis in my right arm and this was the arm that was used, so I am not sure if I got temporary pain from the flu jab or just the normal pain if you see what I mean. I think there was a bit of additional pain though.

I shall continue to have the jab each year and would only stop if the side effects (which I have not noticed before) are really bad.

Falli · 31/10/2018 08:13

I thought the jab this year was pretty much pain free. Zero side effects after for me too.

Im usually the person that despite being told theres no way its linked etc manages to pick something up but this year was totally fine

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 31/10/2018 08:20

Mine was fine as it always is. I did however come down with the worst cold I've had in years a week later. Were I inclined to think that way I'd probably say it was because of the jab... However I know my throat was feeling a bit scratchy the day I got the jab so I was already incubating the nastiness anyway.

smurfy2015 · 31/10/2018 11:10

I got the jab on 9th Oct for 5 days afterwards I had a 2 inch circle around where it went in, which was a white lumpy and tender - localised reaction - took antihistamines and they helped

thankfully I had it in the front of my thigh as used other last year and the years before that I used to use arms but after 3 years running I developed a lump with each injection which is still a painful lump so using thighs from now on, there is better muscle there than in the glutes for me

southnownorth · 31/10/2018 11:16

Had mine last week all fine so far, but I have a nasty cold at the moment, but I think I have just caught it off my dd.

IdahoCrow · 31/10/2018 11:36

So I felt ok yesterday, but woke up at 5am feeling a bit crap. Just texted DSD who had hers yesterday morning as well (same clinic) and she's got the same. Headache, fatigue. Hope it doesn't last too long, I've got to put the bins out Grin

SheSparkles · 31/10/2018 11:40

I had it last week and haven’t had any reaction-not even a heavy arm

Willofthesimpletons · 31/10/2018 11:42

Yes a few weeks ago, sore arm for a day. No other side effects.

PlayingForKittens · 31/10/2018 11:43

Yes I had it at work, just a slightly dead arm for a couple of days. Paid for Biggest Boy to have it, he had no side effects either.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 31/10/2018 12:22

I've never had the flu jab. I thought you only had it if you were a kid or old, is that not right? Also I thought it was a nasal spray. Is that not the case either?

PlayingForKittens · 31/10/2018 12:23

I get it at work, frontline NHS.
Anybody can pay for it providing they have vaccine stocks.
Nasal is for kids, the rest of us get the jab. Kids may also have the jab if they have allergies to any ingredients in the spray.

bengalcat · 31/10/2018 12:26

Yes have had one and no to any reaction .

IdahoCrow · 31/10/2018 12:35

thatmustbenigel DP and DSD get it because they're carers, and I got it this year because I have a health issue that makes it a good idea. All done by our GP surgery, who are really pushing flu vaccinations this year.

cptartapp · 31/10/2018 12:41

The 'new and improved ' one is for the over 65's with the adjuvant added to boost immune response. This is the one more likely to cause a local reaction.

Ollivander84 · 31/10/2018 12:42

Very sore, hot and red arm this year but that's it. I'm immunosuppressed too

FiveNightsAtMummys · 31/10/2018 12:45

Mine was fine, a few hours after my arm ached and I had a big red hot patch around where I'd had the jab but this went within a few days.

Harpingon · 31/10/2018 12:49

Felt a bit off for a week but my arm didn't hurt, no swelling. My daughter is immune suppressed and she was fine.

toastfiend · 31/10/2018 12:51

Yes, no reaction at all. Not even a sore arm.

Westiegirl3 · 31/10/2018 13:16

I had mine on Monday evening around 6.30pm, I woke up to a sore and hot arm in the night but nothing when I woke up in the morning.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 31/10/2018 13:21

I had mine on Saturday. I usually have a really sore arm for a few days afterwards. It was a little achey for a day, then fine. Best one yet!

Don't mention the pneumonia jab I had a few years ago - that was agony!
