Anyone else got this horrid lurgy?

Week 2 of it now, have barely left bed. Nasty dry cough day and night (incontinence pads would have been useful), high temperatures, shivers, aches and pains. Flipping exhausted, soaking wet with sweat. I can manage a daily shower and a bit of browsing (obvs) but that's it. School pickup, no way. Unusual thing about it (for me) is I have no sore throat and no stuffy nose, so more of a mild flu than a cold I guess.
Had the flu jab 4 weeks ago. Halloween Hmm

Yup with morning sickness as a cherry on top.

The doctors said it is viral so nothing can be done. Plus only allowed paracetamol I would raise a glass of wine but I'll settle for shloer

cjt110 · 30/10/2018 15:21

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 Yes... I'm about 5/6 weeks in. It's shit

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 30/10/2018 15:22

Don't envy you the morning sickness, but congratulations!
This thing is nasty though? Was just thinking if my MIL catches it it could be fatal. There's been moments when I've thought I belong in hospital.

cjt110 6 weeks! I'm so sorry. Any improvment at all? Family caught it as well?
I think DD had a milder version a few weeks ago, she had more than a week off of school then which is unheard of in her case.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 DS started with it. Then me. Then DH. I got better then worse. A week off and in bed. It seems to have gotten worse again - sore throat, sore ears, swollen neck, achey... I can't get to see my GP though.

TombIhadaGraveChange · 30/10/2018 15:27

I've got something horrid, though different to yours. The strange thing is that, whereas usually I'll be exhausted for no obvious reason a few days before the cold comes out (with, or without, a sore throat) I was absolutely fine on Friday.

Saturday night, however, I kept waking unable to breathe, but with my nose running. Things stayed like that all day - totally congested (even lying on one side, which usually clears the top nostril) did nowt, but there was a near continuous stream coming out. Occassionally I'd sneeze, which would see a major evacuation happening, but my sinuses were still none the clearer.

Sunday my nose was clearer, and I could breathe, but I ate everything in sight. Yesterday I was ok, but I've been feeling really, really lightheaded all day today.

Lets hope we're feeling completely better soon!

cjt110 · 30/10/2018 15:28

Oh, and I keep waking with a blocked nose... only to blow it when I wake and blood come out HmmConfused

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 30/10/2018 15:33

First 3 days of it I was on my own with the kids so I couldn't completely surrender to it. I think that prolongs it. Now I'm so weak I have no choice.

I had the same for 4 weeks, two with the chronic tiredness and fever/chills and feeling fluey and no appetite, and two with hideous cold and congestion in ears and nose. One DC has had it too, very similar symptoms and is just feeling better after 2 weeks. Have to say, the snot has been (disgustingly) epic.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 30/10/2018 15:59

mmm, epic snot
lurid green is my fave (not)

Yes!

Started about 9 days ago, a different symptom every day for the first 5/6 days, then over the weekend I've had swollen glands, sore throat, splitting /dizzy headache. Yesterday I just felt utterly ill. I'm thinking potentially mild flu?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 30/10/2018 16:13

Mild flu is my thinking also, def not a cold. Hoping someone will say "Yes I had that and it passed after exactly 10 days!"

DeadBod · 30/10/2018 16:17

I'm day 9. Mine seems to be slightly milder than how you've explained but I'm fed up of feeling crap and tired with swollen glands and pounding head from coughing Sad

Unicornandbows · 30/10/2018 16:17

Just want it all to go away so tired of vomiting not being able to breath through my nose and Vicki's slathered all over my face 😔 ohhhh and post nasal drip is difficult to swollow so tired of it hoping I'll be back up and running in a week

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 30/10/2018 16:41

Exhausting isn't it. I sit up and 'sleep' for the f-ing cough. Night Nurse barely touches it.
Swollen glands are supposed to be a good sign though, i the body's lymphatic system kicks in to help flush the lergy? Or so someone said.
I swear when I get well I'll never moan about petty stuff again. Also feel like I need to become fitter and more resilient to these bugs and viruses, not getting any younger and all that. Or perhaps that's not how it works.

OP posts:
DeadBod · 30/10/2018 16:48

Prior to this, I was the fittest I've been in a long time and I was making a conscious effort with my eating so catching it is just back luck Sad

Unicornandbows · 30/10/2018 16:51

I passed it on to my wonderful husband I would love to have been sneakily happy as he got me pregnant but he is so wonderful I genuinely feel bad.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 30/10/2018 16:52

Part of me knows that, part of me is blaming myself.

OP posts:
Heuschrecke · 30/10/2018 16:58

Me too. It's definitely not proper flu, as I've had that 3 times in my life.

But this is just enervating. It's a stinking cold which I've had for two weeks now. Each time I think it might be going, it comes back again with a vengeance. Streaming nose, constant nose blowing, frequent sneezing. I'm hungry, but can't face eating much. I have been getting up and going out - briefly - but just feel like shit.

A couple of days ago I was sneezing and nose-blowing constantly for a couple of hours and eventually burst into tears saying "how much longer, I've had enough?"

Poor DP has had a dreadful sore throat and cough for 4 weeks - he's now on ABs.

sueelleker · 30/10/2018 17:04

I had this-started off as an ordinary cold, and just when I thought it was over I woke up feeling as if I'd walked into a brick wall. Slept for 3 days straight, and it took another 3 weeks for the catarrh to clear.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/10/2018 17:27

Ten days and counting now: sore throat so painful it wakes me up at night; cough so violent I have to retch over a sink. It’s a virus so nothing can be done except rest (hollow laugh), fluids and paracetamol.
