Italy weekend break advice

My parents have big birthdays in January so was thinking of getting them a weekend break somewhere. They are not really sightseeing people and like beach holidays. My mum has always wanted to go to Italy so I'm thinking that would be a good choice, I just dont know which area would be better for them? They don;t have a lot of money themselves so want somewhere that won't be really expensive for them to eat out/do stuff. Also what time of year is nicer for weather? Obviously not gonna send them there in January but when does weather start getting nicer? TIA

I have been to Venice and Milan in the beginning of the year and the weather was the same as the UK. I think it starts warming up in the spring. I once went to Rome and Sorrento in mid April and the weather was lovely.

It's not warm enough to swim indoors or outdoors but it was t-shirt weather for sure. Sorrento and all the little towns round there might be a good option and they could do half board to make it better value for money. They could just explore the towns on the Neopolitan Riviera or catch the boat to Capri.

If they're not confident travelling abroad then Venice is a good starting point. Beautiful (and free!) to just wander around the streets or take a river boat. Spring time is lovely and I'm sure you can find half board packages as it can be expensive eating out. Try Best Western - mid price hotels with good meal deals.

There's a show with Gordon Ramsey, Fred Siriax, and Gino D'campo on C4 atm. The first of the series was Italy. Sardinia looks amazing - cheap, easy enough, great for beach holiday-ers as you said in OP.
