I'm in need of some help.

I've recently moved house. In my new house we have to living rooms. And I can't decide how to layout the one in the first picture. We don't necessarily need a dining table in the room, as we have one in the kitchen.., I'm at a total loss.. please wise MNers help me!

Do you have kids? If so, how many and what age? Does anyone play any musical instruments? Does anyone need to ever work from home?

Need to know a lot more before we can make reasonably useful suggestions to your own situation.

What furniture do you have?

Currently in this room we have corner sofa, coffee table and unit with tv on it.

No kids.

Don't currently have anything I want to keep for the other room. But I really don't know what I want

Personally I'd stick a piano in the family room, with all my books, a decent set of speakers and a squishy armchair, and turn the lounge into a mid century minimalist TV watching room. But what do you like to do with yourself when you're at home?

Are those doors to the garden off the family room? Could it maybe be a garden room, or a fancy dining room where you can have dinner parties with the doors open in the summer?

If there are no kids, you can really do what the hell you like then! If you have any hobbies that require space or equipment then that's an obvious one. If you really don't ever plan on having anyone over to eat other than in the kitchen, then I'd probably have one room as a cosy snug type lounge with all my books and stuff and the other as a shit hot cinema and music room
