Just for fun.

I work in talent management (slebs rather than HR) which okay (stressful) but I definitely wish I'd had the courage to go to catering school and become a chef instead.

I spend a lot of my afternoon thinking about exactly what I'm going to cook that evening and am pissed off if I have to do something in the evening that means I cant cook. I know some people hate it but often it's the highlight of my day and I'd love to work with food all day every day! Blush

What would you do instead or are you happy where you are?

I’ve already had quite a few big changes. I’m back studying now and will get my PhD at 52. This should lead to my last career. Maybe. Or maybe I’ll stay in academia. Maybe I’ll change tack again. Whatever it is it won’t be boring!

No, but I would do more to get up the ladder quicker. For the first 10yrs of my career I definitely was happy believing sheer hard work eventually got you a promotion. Self- promotion and networking is a quicker way!

I would love to be a dietician or something similar. If we could afford to live on one salary, I would really consider going back into education but right now it's not feasible

I would have done a different more mathematical degree and tried to end up in a different sector with better earning potential.

That said I do have a business plan to get out of my current line of work if I can make it happen.

What do you guys do currently? One other thing for me is there is NOTHING outside London in talent. If I'd been a bloody chef or a hairdresser I could go anywhere!

I have changed career several times. Life is too short to stick doing something you don’t enjoy when you could be doing something you’re passionate about.

I do wish I’d ignored the advice I received when I was at school though. If I’d been left to follow the path I wanted to, I’d have been able to achieve greater things in my field than has been possible starting out twenty years later.

Largely the same, but via a less circuitous route.
