We got our boiler serviced today (once a year) and it cost a lot! Before I reveal can you please let me know what you pay for a boiler service. I feel we’ve been ripped off but it would be interesting to find out if we haven’t!

£35.00 plus VAT.

blacat · 29/10/2018 20:24

Around £50

viccat · 29/10/2018 20:44

About £70, I'm in London... I use an independent contractor who runs his own one-man business.

My DH charges £55 for a boiler service

3in4years · 29/10/2018 20:48

£50 + vat.
I was quoted £78 + vat by someone else.

Fluffyears · 29/10/2018 20:50

£45 but I did get quoted £85 I laughed and told them to forget it.

SammySays · 29/10/2018 20:52

Around £100 in London but since moving to Essex pay £60

Mollypolly2610 · 29/10/2018 21:07

FFS. He’s sent us a bill for £200+. No parts ! Learned a lesson then

Even British gas is cheaper than that. 75 I think if you aren't already a customer.

We pay for homecare though so a service is included.

Worieddd · 29/10/2018 21:23

We pay £70 for a boiler service, it’s onky 3 years old but has a 5 year warranty which is invalidated if we don’t have a service.
Literally takes the plumber 10 minutes though!

Ginandchampers · 29/10/2018 21:23

I think a name and shame is appropriate here

mermaidsandunicorns · 29/10/2018 21:35

£78

PersonaNonGarter · 29/10/2018 21:37

Did you agree that in advance? Or is that just the bill?

Also, if you have an oil boiler it will be more.

Magik1 · 29/10/2018 21:44

£55 plus vat outer London
200 is ridiculous!

Mollypolly2610 · 29/10/2018 21:50

Sorry it is an oil boiler but he was only here an hour max!

PersonaNonGarter · 29/10/2018 21:51

Did you agree it in advance?

If not, don’t pay it. We pay £100 a service for an oil boiler.

Mollypolly2610 · 29/10/2018 21:56

We didn’t agree a price we’ve used him before and he hassles my DH with emails to come and service so he just said ok. I said to him I hope there’s nothing to be done just a quick service or let us know so this seems to be his price for a quick service. Never again, I could cry.

My DH is an oil engineer he charges £70 for a service.

PersonaNonGarter · 29/10/2018 22:22

Say no to the bill. It was not agreed and you are not under an obligation to just pay any amount he fancies charging.

Is there a payment account on the invoice? Pay £70 and email, ‘there must be a mix up - you were here for less than an hour. I have paid £70 which is the price of an oil boiler service’. And then don’t engage with him again.

Make sure you find another oil boiler engineer though. Where I live they are quite rare so good to have one up your sleeve for emergencies.

AlexanderHamilton · 29/10/2018 22:24

For a standard domestic service for a single appliance we charge £70 plus VAT. Any further work is charged at £35 per hour plus VAT.

AlexanderHamilton · 29/10/2018 22:25

Just seen it’s oil. That will be more but nowhere near what you were charged.

AlexanderHamilton · 30/10/2018 09:34

Just checked the prices at work. An oil boiler service up to 70kw would be £140 plus VAT.

Mollypolly2610 · 30/10/2018 18:02

Thanks. Don’t feel so bad now
