Lesser spotted woodpecker

DP and I are just back from a lovely weekend in the Lake District; cold but beautiful colours. Whilst walking through some woods we saw a woodpecker. DP said it was a greater spotted woodpecker as the lesser spotted isn't seen this far north. I can't tell the difference, but I'm sure some of you MNs can, and I'm wondering if we could use MN to try and establish a map of the UK where it can be seen?

This tells you about them and where to find them....

The RSPB have a map

However without looking at it I can tell you there must be some resident in Cumbria as we have had one reg feeding on our bird table earlier this year, but the odds of what you saw being a greater spotted are much higher I'm afraid.
