Help with fireplace drafts

Just wondering if anyone has any clue as to why this happens and any solutions for me. I have a newish home (10yrs) but my gawd the drafts on the floor from the fireplace are awful. It’s a gas one but we’ve taken fuse out as never use and totally blocked up the outside vents so no wind getting in that way. A friend mentioned it could be because the harth is directly on the floorboard and not on the carpet - does that seem likely? How would we solve this? We aren’t natural diy-ers! Ive tired using blankets around harth to block but isn’t working. I have a crawling baby and I put a temp gauge in floor earlier at it was 8c (rest of room is cosy at 17!!) help!

You've blocked up the outside vents with a gas fire? Shock

The hearth is supposed to be on the floorboards. You can’t fix a hearth to a carpet.

Why don’t you get the whole fire taken out and block up the hole? You’ll still need some vents in the chimney itself as it will get very damp otherwise.
