So so stuck on which high school to send DD to. Both selective grammars which she has passed. She would get into both. Which would you pick?

School A
Literally across the road
Old and a bit run down
Smaller
About 10 of her primary school pals would be going
Friends with kids there are v happy with it.
Was in special measures a few years ago but now does v well

School B
A 40 min journey including bus ride and short walk each end
Brilliant new purpose built schools
Better facilities
Was one of the city's top schools last year
V good reputation
Friends with kids there say it's amazing
Two of her primary pals will be going
Bigger than School A

In a nutshell the less good but still good one over the road or the really great one a bus ride away?

Pls can you help! Thanks

Really tough. I think I'd let her decide

Plentyoffishnets · 29/10/2018 04:27

Definitely the one over the road. She'll be able to make full use of after school activities, the library etc instead of having to be tied to bus times. Then if she has a trip or anything you won't have too much bother taking her there or collecting her again

The nearest one, being able to walk to school is a massive bonus, as well as you knowing parents who are happy with the school.

I have the same dilemma.

But I'd pick School A esp as league table results are all a bit shady.

Mine is between grammar and sec mod. Both have different attributes.

VenusClapTrap · 29/10/2018 07:06

I think a 40min journey is too far. But I’m sure others will disagree.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/10/2018 07:11

The decider for me would be things like sports offered and facilities.

Old and run down is fine unless the library is a piece of crap and there's one Bunsen burner between 40.

What does your dd enjoy doing and what school does that best.

40 mins isn't that long. Dd has a 30/40 min walk to school. Can she get back if she stays after school?

anniehm · 29/10/2018 07:14

I'll be honest, be content with either because whichever you put first there's a good chance you will get the other. Consider yourself lucky there is two decent options. No grammar schools in my county, no decent schools either
