Co-codamol

ThanosSavedMe · 28/10/2018 20:05

I’ve been prescribed co-codamol as pain relief for a broken one, however it has given me the worst wind ever, just as painful as the break. Is there anything else I can take instead?

It makes me hallucinate but they gave me another after the c sections that was amazing. CoDydramol maybe?

Having looked at the formulations, codydramol is made from a semi synthetic opiate where as cocodamol is actual codeine. So that might be the difference.

Co-codamol are paracetamol (500mg) and codeine (either 8mg or 30mg) mixed together. So, when you take two you are taking 1gram of paracetamol and 16mg or 60mg of codeine.
You might find that only taking one cocodamol and one paracetamol might cotrol the pain but not give you the wind.
Codeine is notorious for causing constipation, so maybe taking something to help you ‘go’ will help (either over the counter or home remedies like prunes etc)
Do not take paracetamol if you’ve taken two cocodamol though, you’ll overdose.

Codeine can cause constipation so it could be that. I don’t think there’s any other strong painkillers that don’t contain some form of opiate which all have the constipation effect (I think!)

Not pain relief but to help disperse the wind, peppermint tea or peppermint capsules will help

Laxatives will help relieve constipation

I've just been taking it for a slipped disc and got awful wind and constipation. I ate prunes and drank lots of water. That helped a bit.

I take 1x8mg Cocodamol at night for osteoarthritis. Doc said I can have 3 during the day but it just makes me sleep so stick to just the one. I also eat polo's. Peppermint helps.

Thanks all. Maybe I’ll try just the one with a paracetamol and see how that goes
