To start taking supplements or wait for doctors diagnosis in 4 weeks?

I have recently noticed I've begun to lose a lot more hair then I ever have done before, particularly in the shower and when brushing. Thinking back I've had quite a few episodes of feeling dizzy, lethargic and also my concentration has also been really bad recently.

I decided to seek help from Dr Google (I know I know) and realised my symptoms do correspond with low levels of iron.

I have made an appointment with local doctor but unfortunately the next available appointment was not until the end of November! I don't feel like it warrants an emergency appointment which I would be able to get usually on the same day.

I popped out to the shops and bought some iron supplements from boots, but I've just realised If I start taking them If the doctor does decide to do a blood test it may a
sway the results.

What do you think I should do? Try the supplements to see if I notice any positive changes or wait for my appointment in 4 weeks?

Thank you!

4 weeks won’t sway it that much and I believe the supplements you buy are fairly low strength so go for it if you want.

If your iron levels are low probably all the doctor will do is give you iron tablets.
If they’re so low that they need an injection or transfusion then I don’t think iron tablets would mask it.
Take the tablets and tell the doctor you’ve been taking them.

it won't 'sway the results' - it'll be fixing the problem (if your iron levels are indeed low).

Thank you for your comments so far

Walking- i guess I just meant if there was an underlying cause I would want to know what it was by diagnosis from a doctor e.g if my iron levels were really low they may want to further investigate to find out why!

From the above it seems that the low dosage wouldn't deviate the results that much anyway though!

Those can be symptoms of low B12 or D as well. Maybe try a good multi-vit with iron?

*less - thank you, I have picked up some floradix this morning, just looked and b12 but no vit d I will take them separately!
