When are you 'doing' Halloween?

I know Halloween is on Wednesday. However, I'm sure many celebrate at the weekend.

Are children likely to be trick or treating tonight and tomorrow?

It seems a silly question, but this is the first year my kids are home over Halloween and they are keen to be prepared for trick or treaters.

Trying to decide if it's worth an Asda visit on a Saturday, which is my idea of pure hell.

Well I don’t plan on getting any sweets in until Wednesday, or never occurred to me that some kids may be trick or treating tonight.
To be fair we only had 1 last year anyway.
Ds is going to a Halloween party today though.

SoupDragon · 27/10/2018 10:55

Trick or treating only happens on the 31st around here although people may have parties on different days.

WeeMadArthur · 27/10/2018 10:57

We only ever get trick or treaters on the 31st.

Knitwit101 · 27/10/2018 11:51

The town I grew up in does it on the Friday before Halloween. So it is always a weekend. No-one comes any other night.

We'll be going out on the 31st here and won't have any sweeties or decorations out at the front until then.

ForalltheSaints · 27/10/2018 11:52

Never.

ItchySeveredFoot · 27/10/2018 11:53

We're visiting my home town this week. I'll be taking the kids out trick or treating on the street I grew up on but not till Wednesday. I'd expect Halloween parties today but not trick or treaters.

Aprilislonggone · 27/10/2018 11:54

Pumpkin carving Wednesday, Halloween themed tea, dc having a few round, then trick or treating. Even ddogs have a Halloween jumper each!!

Halloween is on Wednesday. That's like saying let's celebrate Christmas on the saturday before because the Tuesday is too inconvienant..... nope, just no.
We even have to fit the trick or treating around parents evening which the school has nicely arranged on that day

OddBoots · 27/10/2018 11:57

Weekend for parties, 31st (or not at all) for trick or treating.

AvoidingDM · 27/10/2018 11:57

Parties happen whenever.
Guising (trick or treating) ONLY happens on 31st after its dark and expect to be over for 8.30!

Heismyopendoor · 27/10/2018 11:58

Trick or treaters here only on the 31st.

We don’t actually celebrate it ourselves so have plans to go out with the kids and the dog.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 27/10/2018 11:59

Only ever get them on 31st.

totorosfluffytummy · 27/10/2018 12:00

Parties anytime but in our village Trick or Treating is always on the 31st.

GreenDinosaur · 27/10/2018 12:38

Any kids knocking on my door this weekend won't get far. I'm not keen at the best of times but tolerate it on the 31st.
It's bad enough people are letting off fireworks for bloody weeks and terrifying animals.

EleanorLavish · 27/10/2018 12:55

No trick or treating unless the 31st!
You could get some decoration up or carve a pumpkin though, if you like?

Flower777 · 27/10/2018 13:01

31st!!

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 27/10/2018 14:22

Only ever the 31st here too. I doubt many people would bother answering the door 5 nights before the actual event

TheGoryDamnReaperOfSouls · 27/10/2018 14:55

DS has a Halloween party today and we decorated the house on Thursday because his overexcitement about the decorations I’d bought was too much to resist. We’re only going to light the pumpkins and have sweets in for trick-or-treaters on the 31st.

Stompythedinosaur · 27/10/2018 15:28

Parties might happen a few days before, but I've only heard of trick or treating on the 31st. That's when we will be doing it.
