Is there a secret about yourself that noone knows?

I was thinking earlier.... I have one.

I’m pretty sure I’ll write a book before I die. On what ....I don’t yet know but I have very little internal doubt....

Yet no one knows.

Anyone else got anything similar?
Ps. I have spell checked this time. Think pears of wisdom

Yes

Accountant222 · 28/10/2018 21:25

Yes several but with me they will remain secrets

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 28/10/2018 21:25

I foolishly told a good friend at the time a secret of mine. I’ve regretted it ever since & we are no longer friends - lost touch. I dread it coming out as it would hurt people immensely. But it’s not something that I did wrong though but it would still hurt too many people.

Oblomov18 · 28/10/2018 21:39

"Everyone has secrets"?
Really? I don't.

LilMadAgain · 28/10/2018 23:13

I've just realized they aren't my secrets! I don't have any. I'm incredibly boring. I do have a compulsive shopping habit that crops up every time I have an episode of trauma but I see a therapist for that. I think secrets do weigh heavily on a person though.

VonHerrBurton · 28/10/2018 23:29

Not so much 'secrets' , more like some shitty and selfish things I did in my 20's that I'm ashamed of, will never feel the need to bring up as long as I live. I think about the way I conducted myself back then occasionally, but it doesn't consume me like some people's secrets/bad memories do. That must be an awful burden. I'm actually more ashamed that I don't feel bad iyswim?

Dh doesn't know 'that me' and tbh wouldn't give a shit, he's very non judgemental, but it's my past and will stay there.

sizzledrizz · 28/10/2018 23:48

Not secrets, but a life I left behind. My boyfriend knows some bits, but not all of it. People would be shocked.

Japanesejazz · 28/10/2018 23:55

I only ever post on threads outside of property/legal to annoy people.
It’s very amusing, wind them up, watch them go.

Japanesejazz · 28/10/2018 23:56

Fuck. Going to need a name change!

NellieBee · 29/10/2018 00:33

Yes, 2. I feel horrific about 1, and just embarressed about 2. I often feel panicky when I imagine getting a fever and delirious, or dementia, and the secret splling out.

I hate living with the weight of carrying it, but I did something so awful I know my OH would never look at me the same way again if I confessed. Or my parents, or my friends. I'd lose everyone.

Glossymare · 29/10/2018 10:09

I can’t even begin to imagine what some of these secrets could be? What can be THAT awful that would destroy your lives if it came out??! Wow, mine was just my MIL had an affair yonks ago. Pretty sure my FIL did too. But I just wouldn’t tell anyone because itd be shitty to do so.

RatUnholyRolyPoly · 29/10/2018 10:29

Nah. I used to, but it never helped me one jot. Now I live by the mantra that I won't do anything I wouldn't be comfortable with people knowing. And I have a big mouth, so people always know. And if I do, think or experience something questionable, I am resolved to always tell someone. There's no point living life in the shadows of what goes unsaid.

RatUnholyRolyPoly · 29/10/2018 10:29

This is about secrets concerning me btw. I don't go around telling other people's secrets for no reason, that would be shit! No, it's just me who's an open book.

GoopWrithing · 29/10/2018 10:52

I would have thought everyone had some. DH and my therapist know most things about me that I keep as secrets from the world in general, but there are things I don't want to share with them, either.

autumnin2winter · 29/10/2018 11:11

Yes, a few.

A couple of smaller things where it wouldn't be the end of the world if people knew, but I'd much rather they didn't.
One very 'gossipy' thing that I think people would be surprised at, but I have sworn not to tell.
Two bigger things that have happened to me that I would do everything in my power to keep secret with my life, but it is not wholly within my control
And one thing which only I know and I will take to my grave.

SushiMonster · 29/10/2018 11:19

Yes a couple. Nothing major though and wouldn’t be the end of the world if people found out. Just doesn’t seem like I need to tell people now so much time has elapsed.

I’ve alwyas subscribed to the thinking that the only way two people can keep the same secret is if one of them is dead (ie don’t tell anyone something you want kept a secret)

thenightsky · 29/10/2018 11:27

Same as NellieBee. It weighs me down and I would lose everyone if it came out. The person who shared this secret died last month. I dread getting dementia or something and spilling it all out.

Helmetbymidnight · 29/10/2018 11:30

I didn’t know this fear of giving away secrets with dementia was such a thing. I recommend Julie cohens book ‘together’ which explores this subject.

Notjustanyone · 29/10/2018 11:45

I don't have any secrets because they are a burden I don't want in my life. If anyone tries to tell me one I say 'don't tell me unless you are happy for me to discuss it with my dh'.
I had far too many secrets put upon when I was young which wasn't fair and I'm not prepared to do it now.

KurriKurri · 29/10/2018 13:18

I don't have any secrets about anything I have done - i'm a farily open person generally. I do have secrets about things someone has done to me, because revealing them would hurt and upset other people (my children) so I keep them to myself althought the temptation to talk about them is sometimes great, I never would because it would serve no purpose.

Loyaultemelie · 29/10/2018 13:38

I know quite a few about other people that I wish I didn't.
I have one I really wish wouldn't come out but think it will when I'm a lot older

longwayoff · 29/10/2018 14:06

Nothing so terrible that lives would be wrecked if other people knew though, just things I prefer to keep to myself.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 29/10/2018 15:21

I shoplift smoked salmon.

It's £5 and I can't afford it but I really like it. So I don't scan it through on the self service.

I have never told anyone that before.

NellieBee · 29/10/2018 15:59

I don’t even want to type mine out on this anonymous forum in case I die and my partner looks at my browser history and sees it....

RatUnholyRolyPoly · 29/10/2018 16:05

That's disgusting thatmustbenigelwiththebrie, smoked salmon is RANK!!
