The worst thing you've thrown away by accident

I still get a cold sweat thinking about a necklace I think I put in my jewellery box and then never saw again.

Or my white gold and diamond ring I took off because it needed repairing and then it feel out of a box and I couldn't find where it had fallen.

And the whole bottle of perfume I must have put in the bin. 🙈

Anyone else as idiotic or forgetful as me?

DHs brand new iPhone. I was carrying the bag, used the public toilet and hung the bag on the back of the door as it was a paper bag and worried the loo floor may be wet.

Walked out the loo and left it there. Went back 10 mins later when I realised and of course it was gone.

DD2 only a week or so old so I blame it on baby brain. I felt awful, luckily DH very understanding.

Also sorting out old bits for bin/charity. Had a few old sex toys that should have gone in the bin pile but yep, got the bags mixed up.

AGHHHH · 26/10/2018 22:59

@ADropofReality where's your proof? why do you care? What does it have to do with the thread? And who gives a shit?!

Celticrose · 26/10/2018 23:01

A opal and diamond antique ring which I had hid in a bowl with mini wooden apples. One day I decided to throw the apples out when cleaning the bedroom forgetting about the ring. Remembered the next day too late as it was bin day and the bin had been emptied. I had had even one of the diamonds replaced as it was quite black.

MIL gave DH a cheque for £200 for Christmas one year. The damn thing disappeared off the face of the earth.

He only remembered about it a few weeks later when MIL said she'd checked her bank statement and it hadn't been cashed. She was really annoyed he'd been so careless and lost it, so much so that she refused to replace it Grin

Ringsender2 · 26/10/2018 23:10

Do we have a cat's bum emoticon for Adrop? Even better than a biscuit under the circs

SmokeAndBone · 26/10/2018 23:14

A letter that my Dad wrote his Mum when he was in hospital. He died when I was 7. My Nan saved that letter for over 80 years. She died and my uncle gave it to me and I accidentally threw it away. It was in an envelope with DDs scan photo, so I lost that too

weepat · 26/10/2018 23:16

A set of car keys with a cornish imp keyring attached. My mum had rbought it back from her hols & died soon after.

It the last thing she bought me & I had carried it with me each day as if she was there too.
That was years ago & I tear up even typing this.

PickAChew · 26/10/2018 23:17

Not that precious, but, when absolutely skint, some money hidden in the wrapping paper on a bottle of wine.

I had to have one of my horses put to sleep. I cut off some of his tail, wrapped it in tissue and put in my glove box. Sold my car and was clearing it out. Threw the tissue away. A week later realised what I'd done :(

Justaboutawake · 26/10/2018 23:26

Just had a new boiler fitted and in the bag of instructions was a weird looking plastic key. Threw it away thinking “that can’t be important”. It is. It’s for topping up the pressure in the boiler (as per YouTube). Am yet to tell DP.....

Gibble1 · 26/10/2018 23:38

I’ve lost my solid silver belt buckle. Bought for me when I qualified as a nurse. I’m sad because if I ever get a sister’s position, I won’t be able to wear my lovely belt buckle.

Tiggles · 26/10/2018 23:40

I somehow managed to throw out DS's brand new school shoes and keep the old ones he had grown out of.
Then there was the time my mobile phone must have fallen into the recycling box when I carried it out. Given the boxes are emptied by hand I'm still gutted that the recycle men didn't hand it back!

JurassicAdventure · 26/10/2018 23:44

@justaboutawake you can buy replacements ones on Amazon Worcester Bosch Internal Filling Key To Repressurise Combi Boiler www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00E5YVXCG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1E50Bb85F0PFW

HollySwift · 26/10/2018 23:45

I haven’t admitted this to DH yet but I have a terrible feeling I may have binned DDs tablet Blush Still searching the house for it in the hope that it turns up. She only uses it 3/4 times a year so when it wasn’t in its place the other day I was slightly bemused, and then rather panicked!

AtSea1979 · 27/10/2018 00:00

My digital camera, not the foggiest where it’s gone but i’ve moved house a few times since I last saw it. Luckily I printed off the only pics I had of DDs dad but no hard copy.

robindeer · 27/10/2018 00:12

This thread is genuinely stressful to read. I'm now running through a list of items in my head and working out whether they're where they should be!

Flowers for all of you who've lost sentimental things.

ThrewTheTurkeyJellyOut · 27/10/2018 00:27

I'm vegetarian. My husband cooks the turkey & ham and I cook the veg and make pudding.
One Christmas day I noticed this disgusting looking jellyish mess in a jug so I threw it out.
I think it was about 10 years ago and it comes up every year about what I did, so I remind him to keep it safe if he doesn't want me to get rid of it.
What's wrong with vegetarian gravy anyway?

Justaboutawake · 27/10/2018 01:11

Thank you Jurassic but this was more “flat” if that makes sense? Think cardboard cutout of a key but made of plastic....

Atchiclees · 27/10/2018 01:53

I hoovered up my Fitbit and thought to myself I will get that when I finish hoovering. I totally forgot, and it only dawned on my after bin day where it was. Haloween Sad

Butterflycookie · 27/10/2018 02:08

I lost about £40. It was in my jeans pocket and I went out shopping. It must’ve fallen out. I now never put any cash in my trouser pockets! Also I think I may have accidently thrown away my earrings. I’ve turned my room upside down and still can’t find them. Sad

phantomofthenorthlaine · 27/10/2018 08:13

I got in a strop when a rogue wave drenched me/towel & bag on the beach. I went and washed the bag out in the sea because it was full of sand, completely forgetting I had taken my (diamond) earrings out & put them in a side pocket earlier in the day. Washed them into the sea! Idiot.

Youvegotafriendinme · 27/10/2018 08:56

My mum threw away her wedding band with a tissue while on holiday.

SagelyNodding · 27/10/2018 09:07

Locking wheel nut was a nightmare to sort out!
I have also chucked a huge bag of surf label summer stuff I had put aside for the kids
And my driving licence Hmm
DH has recently lost his house keys in his work bin he thinks... We shouldn't be allowed near bins unsupervised

MemorialBeach · 27/10/2018 09:18

And gold and diamond ring that used to belong to a distant deceased relative. I had never actually worn it as I prefer the look of silver. I don't even remember where is last saw it so have no idea what happened to it.

And more upsetting, a photo booth picture of me as a baby with my grandma, who I was really close to and who has since died. I had it in a small photo frame on my bedside table for years, then one day it was gone. I turned my whole bedroom upside down looking for it with no luck. (I was living in uni hall type accommodation at the time, so no other rooms it could have been in). All I can assume is I managed to sweep it into the bin when tidying /cleaning. I did empty out the bin I my search but it wasn't there, so I must have taken it to the outside bin before realising the picture was missing.
