Hello to everyone, we will move in Liverpool in a couple of month and we have a 4years old girl which should start reception next September. We would like to apply for a catholic school. I know that depends where we will live but we didn't find home yet because the home must to be close to the school. So now I have two question!

  1. could you suggest an excellent catholic school?
  2. which area of Liverpool do you think is best for a family?

Thank you

Crosby/Blundellsands area.
Look at Ursuline school.

Also consider Wirral. Fab for bringing up a family.
Great schools including grammar school system.

Or Great Crosby Primary School

Lots of catholic schools in Liverpool op. Bishop Eton is very popular and in a nice area

Crosby is good for both Catholic schools and families, but I'll put my two cents in and say that the catholic secondary school in Crosby sacred heart Catholic college is where I went and while the standard of teaching there is quite good, it was quite frankly the five most horrendous years of my life. My time there caused me to have suicidal ideations and tanked my self esteem, which never fully recovered.

That being said, I do also know a few people who went there who did well and enjoyed their time there.

With regards to where to live in Liverpool south Liverpool tends to be nicer Allerton, aigburth, Mossley hill and Woolton. The non catholic schools are possibly better than the catholic schools in these areas. Where about will you work? For school applying purposes Crosby is in Sefton not Liverpool so would apply to a different authority if you were looking to move that way

St Mary’s College in Crosby is supposed to be OK. Ursuline has a good reputation as a primary. If you are happy to move slightly further afield St. Ann’s Primary and St. Bede’s in Ormskirk are very good.

Bowchicawowow · 26/10/2018 16:03

St Mary’s is private by the way but their scholarships are pretty generous.

Thanks to all of you! We would like to stay in south east or central east in area as you mentioned as bishop, Mossley hill and around. I just check a few website school and I like a few

There is no 'church-going' criteria in Liverpool. The child will need to be a baptised Catholic and living in the relevant parish. It is important that you are aware that Archdiocese of Liverpool are absolute bastards and not at all Christian. They treat their staff like shit and are only interested in money and land. The Archdiocese are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit the best staff because of their restrictive staffing policies.
If I were you, I would send your child to one of the many excellent non-Catholic schools in the city and bring your child up to be a respectful human being.
If you do choose to go Catholic, you can email the Archdiocese with the postcodes of houses you are considering and they will let you know which schools they are in the catchment of.
If you want advice on specific schools, PM me, I am quite knowledgeable in this area.

Owletterocks · 26/10/2018 23:17

Wow, not sure that’s what the op asked. I would like to add that my children attend a catholic school as do many others in Liverpool and are very respectful as are all the catholics I know!

@JanetandJohn500 thank you for your replay. I don't know how on you sorry. Could you tell me a few excellent non catholic schools? Thank you

Rudston, Sudley, Mosspits, Dovedale are all excellent. Liverpool College is also fantastic but is massively oversubscribed.

Bowchicawowow · 27/10/2018 12:16

Bluecoat is the best school in Liverpool.
