social help for 5 year old ds

I posted this in Primary Education but am posting it here for traffic ...

My ds is 5 and the youngest in his year 1 class. He’s happy and loves learning, and made lots of friends in reception. But this year he’s been saying he doesn’t have any friends to play with. Some of them play too roughly for him and he’s not into football. One boy was picking on him a bit but I spoke to the teacher and that seems to have stopped. He just seems to be on his own a lot. And it’s not helped by the fact that he’s very shy, so finds it hard to join in.

In reception they had a lot more things to play with so I think hat helped him make friends. But now that it’s all football and fighting he doesn’t know how/ want to play.

He says he is lonely and has started wetting himself quite regularly. What can I do to help him?

Sad sorry to hear that. I'm sure someone will come along with advice Flowers

I'll be watching with interest as my DD who has just started reception is really shy although not having friendship problems as such.

Is your DS in any out of school clubs to help build a bit of confidence? I've just signed DD up for Rainbows in the hope it will bring her out of her shell.

Do the school run any after school clubs or anything like that where he might meet others in his year who are interested in the same sort of things as he is?

betty he is in after school club but has the same problem there. unfortunately this term the only activity club for him is football, and he absolutely refused to go although I tried to make him. He seems too young for any out of school clubs as well - drama and cubs and other things all start at 6.
