Cars - lease or buy?!

Just after some opinions please - am currently looking into getting a car either on personal contract hire (leasing) or personal contract purchase (buying)

Anyone had good/bad experiences of either?

What's "personal contract purchase"? Credit/debt? At least you'd own it at the end.

Owning it means maintaining and repairing it also! My dd leased one and returned it after 2 years for another new one! Fuel cost only for 2 x 2 years!! Her job didn't alow for a car potentially off the road /in a garage and costing her money.
I own mine but we have another family car if mine goes wrong.

@florafawna my understanding is you pay monthly installments until the end, but you have to pay a balloon payment. I think I saw somewhere it could be about 8 grand
