Can perimenopause cause spotting a few days before period?

I'm 48. My period is due in the next few days. 24 days into my cycle I have spotting. My period is anywhere between 26 to 35 days. Can you get spotting days before period starts, especially during perimenopause?

Yes, you can. It's the fluctuations in the hormones.

Sounds normal to me, as pp says no period for 6 months and then 6 months worth in one go, mild spotting was common too. Then suddenly one day you realise youve not had a period for a year yay 😀

I've been having spotting for 3 days beforehand for about 8 years now. Asked about it at my last couple of smears and was told it was nothing to worry about unless mid cycle. Think I'm still quite a few years away from peri-menopause too.

foodanddrink · 26/10/2018 08:53

I've never had spotting before so got me a bit worried.

I just worried it could be implantation bleeding but at 48, chances of being pregnant is very low, isn't it?

Yes it's normal, I had this at your age and mentioned it to the GP when seeing her about something else, she sent me for scan and colposcopy but everything was fine, the lady I saw at the hospital told me it was very common in women my age. Are you smears up to date?

foodanddrink · 26/10/2018 09:54

My smear is up to date but I do have cervical erosion.

So how long should the spotting last before my period starts? I've been spotting since Wednesday morning. Only pink blood every time I wiped and nothing more

When I started the peri I had spotting a few days before my period and then sometimes a few days after it had finished, it's just your hormones. If you're worried about anything best to speak to your GP.

Food I'm having this too atm - always used to be regular, every 28 days. Now it faffs about like it's going to start from about 23-24 days in until it starts properly when it would have done. But all normal, apparently.

foodanddrink · 26/10/2018 10:23

So it sounds more like hormones rather than implantation bleeding?

I'm 49 and I get this too. Annoying, but normal.

Yes a lot more likely but obviously not impossible that's it's implantation bleeding.

foodanddrink · 26/10/2018 16:17

How long does the implantation bleeding lasts? A couple of days at most?

I've period like stomach cramp since the start of spotting. I kept on checking if my period is starting but it's still spotting.
