How do you decide when to return to work.

I have a job interview coming up. I applied on a whim and didn't really expect to get anywhere with it and now I've been offered the interview I'm not sure whether I want to proceed.

I have two kids, one is in primary school, the other will get their 15/30 hours after Easter.

Currently I work from home on a self employed basis with the youngest doing a few hours in a childcare setting to facilitate it.

There are lots of benefits to my current set up. I set my own hours so it's great for school holidays, child illnesses etc.

On the other hand, I have no holiday pay, sick pay and am currently not paying into a pension as I'm not bringing home a lot of cash.

The potential new job would be full time, but also involve a 40 minutes commute (normal round here as it's a rural area) so potentially the kids would be in childcare / school for 9-10 hours a day, five days a week.

Pay would be about the same in terms of hourly rate but obviously it would be a full time wage and still largely eaten by childcare costs until I get the 30 hours.

I'm torn really, (and getting quite anxious about it even though I haven't had the interview yet!). How do you go about making decisions like these?
