Nice Films for kids with no baddies please?

7 and 5 year olds. I’m looking for nice happy films for them to watch with no baddies or bad things happening.
Have tried a few but they tend to get scared.
Any suggestions please??

Thanks so much everyone for all the ideas, much appreciated.
For those who asked on things we have tried and failed;
Can’t do frozen due to the marshmallow character. Or jungle book for example due to the tiger. Or greatest showman or even Mary poppins due to the (for them) scary bit when the children run away from the bank.
We can do Disney cars films, Tom and Jerry and CBeebies and documentary stuff.

Am also grateful to those who said their children got over it, gives me some hope we can watch some normal family films!

Watching with interest as I have similarly sensitive children

The Railway Children

My DD didn’t get over it by being expected to watch anything she didn’t want to, by the way, before anyone suggests ‘toughening up’. All her own pace and no shaming.

Purplejay · 25/10/2018 21:37

Anything u rated? what stuff scares them?

These were favourites in our house.

Nemo
Wall e
Shrek
Ice age

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs?

Lots of talking about how things are sometimes a little bit scary and that makes them interesting/ exciting. Even the Magic Faraway Tree was too much as a little child - too much peril! Fairy tales were completely out. No wolves in our home for years! ‘Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf’ was a turning point actually, now I think about it.

I’m serious about not shaming or minimising. Two years of infant ‘Golden Time’ in which other children wanted to watch films made my DD dread Fridays! I always made sure she had other options, but it often meant her having to exclude herself to do ‘jobs’ or ‘colouring’.

The secret life of pets is terrifying!

Seriously, my 3 were practically traumatised by it - the funny bits are hilarious, but the one eyed viper baddie, and the rabbit with the split personality had them scared to bits.

It is hard to find films without any baddies, but some are scarier than others.

We have had success with:

Sing
Paddington/2
Cars/2/3
Thomas the tank engine films
Shrek
Finding Dory

Mr Popper's Penguins

There are quite a few Disney Tinkerbell movies, and I was surprised by how watchable they were when dc were of that age. Gentle and gently funny and worth checking out. I don’t remember if there are actual baddies, but an online synopsis should tell you that.

Isitme13 · 25/10/2018 21:45

Oh, and agree with no shaming or pushing to go beyond what they can deal with right now.

My middle dc (11, almost 12) couldn’t watch anything except animated films (and nothing beyond ‘mild peril’ until about 12-18 months ago. She hated film days at school - supposedly a treat, but she was always worried she would be scared by the film, even though they were U/PG.

She’s moved on, finally, and is now happily romping through doctor who - from one extreme to another Grin

My DS finds things like Dispicable Me too scary! Loves the Angry Birds Movie (and it's actually very funny) and Sing as well.

AgathaRaisinDetra · 25/10/2018 21:46

Inside Out.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 25/10/2018 21:52

Mine are also scared of lots of relatively tame movies!

Miracle on 34th Street? It's on netflix now
Ours liked Moana but we had to fastforward the lava bits for the early viewings
Babe and Sing also great suggestions
Some of the Thomas the Tank Engine and similar movie or longer episodes

Commonsense media is great for recommendations on this type of film!

SnugglySnerd · 25/10/2018 21:53

The Railway Children.
Cinderella.
Finding Nemo/Dory.

DD1 was terrified of Toy Story. She couldn't bear the creepy toys the boy next door made. She still won't watch it 3 years later.

haverhill · 25/10/2018 21:55

The Tigger film from a while back is delightful.

Josiebloggs · 25/10/2018 21:55

Dont do Tinkerbell and the Neverbeast my DD was inconsolable for hours and couldn't tell me why.

Florries · 25/10/2018 21:58

The Grinch? Pocohuntus? Lilo and Stitch?

Sleeping beauty used to terrify me at the part where the fairies are running around saying 'rose where are you' while she's about to touch the spinning wheel and the creepy music is playing!

TheChatsPyjamas · 25/10/2018 22:06

The polar express is free from baddies.
Babe is genuinely brilliant and no baddies.

Definitely not the little mermaid - the bit at the end with Ursula used to scare me!

PersisFord · 25/10/2018 22:09

Paddington is terrifying!

Arthur Christmas is a big hit here. Also Ice Age, Sing, Winnie the Pooh.

Otherwise I just have to do some nifty work with the remote control and fast forward all the scary bits. This means we watch a lot of films I remember so I know when to skip.

Tangled is strangely acceptable here. I think the witch is quite scary but they manage her. The Shrek where Jennifer Saunders sings “I need a hero” at the end is also ok for them (and I love it!)

thedishonthecoffeetable · 25/10/2018 22:19

Polar express freaks me out. I watch it every year and it still freaks me, no idea why. Dgds laugh at me when I say Nanny gets scared watching this film, they love it!

PippilottaLongstocking · 25/10/2018 22:21

The fox and the child

GetRid · 25/10/2018 22:22

My Neighbour Totoro is a baddie-free film, unlike anything else, lovely and sweet

I also have sensitive children! They prefer TV where they know what they're getting. We couldn't watch Paddington (ear cleaning scene) or Finding Nemo (shark) so I feel your pain!

dannyboyle · 25/10/2018 22:26

Can’t do Paddington or polar express either. The bit in polar express when the train goes over the ice kills it. Or dispicable me or ice age films.

Welcome all comments. I don’t put any pressure on the children. Our school also does films as treats and I fully supported them when they didn’t want to watch them.
