7 and 5 year olds. I’m looking for nice happy films for them to watch with no baddies or bad things happening.
Have tried a few but they tend to get scared.
Any suggestions please??

The Secret Life of Pets is lovely. Inside Out - quite sad but not scary. The Little Mermaid? Ursula isn't that scary as a baddie. Gnomeo and Juliet doesn't have a scary villain either as far as I remember.

Snottingham · 25/10/2018 16:44

Mary Poppins? (The original one).

Alice in wonderland is pretty scary! And Matilda, and Home Alone.

Runnynosehunny · 25/10/2018 16:51

My dd couldn't really watch films up to about age 7. So many of them have scary bits. We just watched lots of Cbeebies! Then she suddenly changed and got to love scary stuff.

JosephineHass · 25/10/2018 16:52

3out- I don't think that original Alice in Wonderland is scary at all actually, definitely completely different then the new one...🤷🏻‍♀️

parrotonmyshoulder · 25/10/2018 16:54

I understand your need for non-scary films - my DD was the only preschooler who had to leave the cinema screaming with fear at Frozen a few years ago!

She’s now a Harry Potter addict, so got over it!

We watched Tinkerbell repeatedly for a few years. Couldn’t handle much more than that until Studio Ghibli

Disney’s Robin Hood.
Madeleine perhaps?
Thomas the Tank films (although Day of the Diesels is pretty scary)

The queen of hearts is really scary! And the dark woods, and even the Cheshire Cat is a bit freaky :/
Started watching Rocket Man, not loving it.

Another one for Strange Magic, took dgds to see it and errrrr I might have watched it on tv, by myself. Love the soundtrack.

Wreck it Ralph, it does have a baddie but not a nasty type. Another one I may or may not have watched by myself on a rainy afternoon.

StringyPotatoes · 25/10/2018 17:49

Over the Hedge? The "baddie" is hardly seen and whilst the other characters are scared of the dog he's quite clearly yelling "play!" at them.

EduCated · 25/10/2018 17:49

Fly Away Home (sad bits, but no baddies)
Shaun the Sheep (don’t remember any baddies, more slapstick, though might have forgotten some)
Parent Trap (might be a bit old for them)

PawneeParksDept · 25/10/2018 17:51

The Nanny McPhee films have sad bits but are generally quite tame 🤔

Was a big hit with the DC I saw it with

Beerandpancakes · 25/10/2018 17:56

What specific parts of films were they scared by? If you can narrow it down it may help e.g. my ds is really scared of anything involving monsters/peril but is fine with cartoon style baddies or guns. So he loved star wars but wouldn't watch how to tame your dragon for example.

The first Cars film and Walle may both be worth a try.

Harebellmeadow · 25/10/2018 17:57

Joining in for films with no baddy, no emotional turmoil and nothing scary. Frozen was too much for my DD1 till she was 5 😱

I actually have one - Barbie and her Sisters in the great Puppy Chase. Actually quite decent and not stereotypically barbie. Not the “Great Puppy Adventure” though as that has two bad crooks and the girls get trapped underground in a cave after a technology driven treasurehunt.

Beamur · 25/10/2018 17:57

Despicable Me
The incredibles
Cars
The Incredible Journey is a bit of a tear jerker -there's a modern version too
Wreck it Ralph
Jonny English

3out · 25/10/2018 18:07

Second vote for Barbie and the puppy chase :)

Ioki · 25/10/2018 18:22

Hmm! Second the PPs who say Studio Ghibli movies - gorgeous.

Paddington?
Peter Rabbit?
Sing
Zootropolis
Secret Life of Pets

Tinkhasflown · 25/10/2018 19:48

Sophia the First
Tinker bell
Toy Story movies

Kokapetl · 25/10/2018 20:20

Madagascar. The only slightly bad guys are the Fusa who are scared of Alex the Lion and are mostly just seen running away.

My 5 yr old loves it and was terrified of the monster in Frozen and really upset by Lion King

Witchend · 25/10/2018 20:34

Old version of Swallows and Amazon's. Not the film that was out last year.

ISaySteadyOn · 25/10/2018 20:39

Oh yes, the 1974 Swallows and Amazons is lovely. My 7 yo, 5 yo and 4 yo adore it. No scary parts, no villains.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/10/2018 20:40

5 children and it

3out · 25/10/2018 20:53

Love Swallows & Amazons! ‘Her real name is Ruth, but uncle Jim said the Amazons were ruthless’ - so many fab quotes :)

mikado1 · 25/10/2018 21:23

Good idea for a thread, thanks OP. But lots of those listed have got baddies! Confused

dangerrabbit · 25/10/2018 21:28
