The Labrador is one of my favourite dog breeds. Apparently they have a reputation for greediness. Is this reputation deserved or is it another urban myth ? I've seen plenty of fat dogs in my time but not necessarily Labs more than any other breed. Thankyou.

PS. Feel free to post pictures of your sleek, athletic Labs in order to puncture the myth !

Show lab here, has never been greedy, I could (and have) left my dinner in the floor while getting a drink, she wouldn’t dream of touching it unless I said she could, always been the same. Beautiful temperament, friend to the world. Now 14, amazingly fit, trim and healthy. Big dog but trim and healthy.

People are so used to fat dogs (we've got a fair few fat spaniels around here too) that the reactions you get if you've got an on-weight dog are nuts sometimes... I've got greyhounds and you'd think I was walking skeletons around sometimes! (Current pointy is a perfect weight for her size, previous pointy was always just on the bottom end of the good range for her build - we struggled to keep weight on her)

Just saw the carrot comment. Box lab loves carrots, peeled and chopped into batons. I always prepare an extra carrot for her when I cook and they make a fab thing to take on walks for training.

My chocolate lab is so greedy that after she has cleared all the pears off the lower branches of the pear tree, she taught the spaniel to run along the garden, leap up and grab a pear, give it to her and then get his own. Once all of the ones in his reach had gone, the sneaky little bugger dug up the tree one side so it fell over and she ate the rest of the pears! That was 2 years ago and the tree survived. I came home from work the other day and she had a huge pear in her mouth!
The spaniel is far less greedy but will do anything for a satsuma or a banana. Daft sofa the pair of them 😂
