how much clotted cream do you have on scones?

We typically buy the Rodda's pot of clotted cream, 227 g. This does 4 scones + a little bit left over. I've noticed though if you get cream tea out, you get a teeny tiny pot of cream.

How much cream do you use on your scones?

Do you eat the scone in two separate halfs? I do but DP eats his whole because he's weird

ALL of it Wink

PrincessWire · 24/10/2018 12:53

As much as is humanly possible.

FloofyDoof · 24/10/2018 12:55

As much as I can balance on there, the scone is only mostly there because people look at you weird of you start eating clotted cream and jam by the spoonful.

If it doesn’t get on the end of your nose when you’re eating it, it’s not enough.

DoubleHelix79 · 24/10/2018 12:58

As much as I can possibly fit on it!

OydNeverDeclinesGin · 24/10/2018 12:58

As much as I can get on there! I've never had a cream tea out where there's enough clotted cream!

kaytee87 · 24/10/2018 12:59

As much as I can pile on

TokyoSushi · 24/10/2018 12:59

Oh good, I'm glad there's a consensus, yes absolutely loads for me too!

LiquoricePickle · 24/10/2018 13:00

As much as possible. Shelley's tearooms in Kent are the only places I've even been given enough (too much even).

tenorladybeaker · 24/10/2018 13:01

Butter layer (must be salted) about 0.5mm thick
Jam layer (must be strawberry and have identifiable fruit lumps) - about 3mm thick.
Clotted cream layer - at least 10mm thick.

LiquoricePickle · 24/10/2018 13:02

Also, I don't work for them, know them personally or even live on the same continent!

BlueTongueSkink · 24/10/2018 13:02

Tons and eat in separate halves. Then you can fit more jammy creamy goodness on.

Escolar · 24/10/2018 13:03

Loads! It's the best bit!!

Shmithecat · 24/10/2018 13:03

I'll just take the pot of cream and a spoon thankyouverymuch.

Babybearsporij · 24/10/2018 13:03

I use it as the butter, so a nice thick layer on each side. I can't visualise the pot you're talking about though, so couldn't say specifically how much out of the pot that would be!

picklemepumpkin · 24/10/2018 13:04

Is this like the Dawn French chocolate advent calendar question?

overmydeadbody · 24/10/2018 13:04

In private, as much as I can fit in.

In public, a respectable amount.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/10/2018 13:06

And of course it's Clotted cream THEN jam, you Cornish weirdos!

BringOnTheScience · 24/10/2018 13:09

As much cream as you can possibly pile on, ideally thicker than the scone, then a dollop of jam balanced on the top. It must touch your nose as you bite into it.

Villanellesproudmum · 24/10/2018 13:11

It’s more likely how much scone can I put on my clotted cream.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 24/10/2018 13:46

A friend and I had a scone with cream and jam in a new cafe recently and I was expecting the normal - uncut and possibly slightly warm scone, a pot of jam and a fcking enormous pot of clotted cream.
Instead it came to us not just ready cut, which is an abomination in itself but (brace yourselves) ready spread and then SANDWICHED TOGETHER!

So barely any filling at all. It looked like we were 5 years old and our mums had prepared them so we didn't eat too much. Boy it looked so sad.

We won't go back Wink

ShatnersWig · 24/10/2018 13:48

None at all. But then I also don't have jam on them.

Butter. Nowt else. Ta muchly.

VforVienetta · 24/10/2018 13:48

Ah I have found my people. Happy thoughts of clotted cream, and whether I should bake this afternoon...

I generally aim for a minimum of 1cm thick, and if I can fit more on I will. Then add a decorative jam garnish.

Winkybum · 24/10/2018 13:53

It's the same answer as to "how much fresh butter on a crumpet/other bread product"....if there's not teeth marks when I take a bite then it's not enough.

PoesyCherish · 24/10/2018 13:54

@ShatnersWig bleugh! just butter???

Glad I have found my people.

Here is the pot size I normally buy:

Seeing as DP is weird and eats his together, I am pretty sure I use a lot more cream than him although there never seems to be enough. And definitely cream then jam :)
