What do you do to "calm and soothe?"

Currently going through a hard time, not
Working due to redundancy and also feeling very low and anxious - my counsellor is wonderful and has suggested to do things every day that calm and soothe me.
I usually do various things like
Force myself to walk the dog, tidy the house etc to Keep me busy and prevent the depressive behaviour like
Sloping off to bed or watching tv all day.
But apparently that's not calming and soothing...it's a new concept to me...the only thing i love doing and find calming is being with my horses. I am trying to read books, have a walk or go for sit in a coffee shop.
What do you all do? I'm looking for inspiration

I find cross stitch calming, keeps you busy but not too taxing on the brain, are there any crafty things you like? Or those adult colouring books.

What about yoga or meditation?

Could you enrol in a class like aromatherapy if you're into that sort of thing.

Try an app like Headspace (meditation app), that has really helped me a lot.

Some people like things like colouring, crafting (making pom-poms), baking?

Have you tried breathing exercises, as in www.acesconnection.com/clip/breathe-to-heal-max-strom-tedxcapemay-19-min-tedxtalks

?

Haven't thought of crafting- I'm not the creative type!
Maybe yoga and Pilates would
Me good

Mountain biking. No time for sad thoughts when you;re hurtling down trails.

Puzzles and crosswords, read, come on MN, do some drawing/doodling, write poetry, talk to my friends.

Papercutting while listening to podcasts. You can't stop concentrating for a second, but it's not a stressful kind of concentration - more like tunnel vision. Hours can pass!

Hot baths for me.

Zumba! Not very calming, or soothing admittedly. But so much fun that it's very 'feel good' in a different way.
