Uniform for one hour a week ffs

DD is nearly 18 and is doing her second year of a college course, this year they have decided they need a uniform. This will cost £70 and only needs to be worn an hour a week! DD told them it was too expensive. They said we know you have a part time job. Surely that's her money for driving lessons and getting to college not for a uniform they didn't need last year

Bump

Why is it only for an hour a week?

BritInUS1 · 23/10/2018 19:23

What course is she doing? If it's a condition of the course then I don't think she has any choice

Because most of the course is doing fitness and it's just for in a form class. This is £70 for a fleece and trousers that she didn't need last year. She will have to work 14 hours to pay for it because some bright spark had an idea

Can you tell I'm cross

£70 for a fleece and trousers seems a bit steep. Could they not just ask for black trousers or leggings?

sonlypuppyfat · 23/10/2018 20:30

It's really expensive in my opinion

YANBU and how does a fleece and trousers cost £70?

happinessischocolate · 23/10/2018 20:53

How many are on the course? Can they all just refuse to buy it?

sonlypuppyfat · 23/10/2018 22:55

I think quite a few are against it

I thought this was going to be about kids’ extra curricular activities - karate outfits, Cubs uniforms and so on, that only get worn for an hour a week. But £70! And for a student. That’s ridiculous.

sonlypuppyfat · 24/10/2018 05:10

Thank you , I think it's ridiculous too

A uniform could just be a t-shirt or sweatshirt at a fraction of the cost, or even just certain colours only, for one hour a week.

sonlypuppyfat · 24/10/2018 11:53

Exactly, a polo shirt or fleece would be fine

OP posts:
SnuggyBuggy · 24/10/2018 14:54

Maybe I should start a fleece factory if that's what the going price is

sonlypuppyfat · 24/10/2018 14:56

The best of it is she has to pay a fiver for shipping because fleece seems a rare thing

Fontofnoknowledge · 24/10/2018 16:35

Is this a private or college course ?
Were they told about this before joining the course .?

I suspect not. Just refuse. SOMEONE is getting a fat kick back at that price.

sonlypuppyfat · 24/10/2018 17:03

It's just at the local tech, last year she didn't need it. Something about it stinks

OP posts:
ChoudeBruxelles · 24/10/2018 17:07

What’s going to happen if she doesn’t wear it?

sonlypuppyfat · 24/10/2018 17:22

The lecturer said she'd have to leave the course! Why? Because she can't afford the uniform

OP posts:
ChoudeBruxelles · 24/10/2018 17:43

Go to student services/welfare/support fund (whatever it is called there) and ask for help if you can’t afford to pay for it

sonlypuppyfat · 25/10/2018 11:14

She was told today to priorities the uniform over everything else, so it's either her bus fare to college or her driving lessons!

OP posts:
ChoudeBruxelles · 25/10/2018 11:27

Go and tell them you can’t afford it if you can’t. Colleges get money for support funds which where I work can be used for material fees including uniform if it’s mandatory
