What to do if you can’t get through to Doctors?

DD aged 3, reckon she’s got a chest infection. She’s quite prone to them this time of year and I’ve been told by both GP and respiratory consultant if I’m worried take her to GP.

But I can’t get through! Phone lines open at 8am and I’ve called every 2 minutes since then and can’t get through at all. Keep getting the busy tone and then being cut off, I’ve not even made it through to the triage service yet.

If I drag her out in the rain to the surgery I’ll be put in a queue and told to wait to be called.

Need to know what to do as I need to call her Nursery and let them know what’s happening.

So what do I do if I don’t manage to get through?

Go down there, speak to reception and wait

Just keep pressing redial. Don’t wait 2 minutes. You’ll get through eventually - if all appointments taken you will likely get a call back from the duty doc, and I’m sure they will squeeze her in. Clearly if she’s got a chest infection she shouldn’t be going to nursery anyway so tell them she isn’t coming.

If you think she has a chest infection then I doubt she is fit to go to nursery.

I'd just go to the surgery tbh. Wrap her up warm and take a tablet / snacks

They don’t do call backs from doctor for young children at my surgery! If I go down I could be waiting all day with her to be called as it’s whereever she can be squeezed in.

Nursery know she’s not going on but they like to be kept updated of what’s happening so they can organise the rest of the week etc. If it’s not a chest infection she’ll be ok to go in tomorrow

How are far are you from surgery? Can you go down and get an appt and if the wait is too long go home and come back?

Wait in the car?

If keep trying the phone as well.

Pack a bag with drink toys etc and go and wait for her to be seen.

Got an appointment for lunchtime

Glad you've got an appointment. For future reference I don't wait 2 minutes, I press the call off button then immediately press call. Usually do this 4/5 times then get put in the queue.

I hit redial over and over.. once it took 37 goes to get through, but I did and got an appointment. Its not a great system though!
