Moving day - tips for doing it alone

I am moving house soon as a single parent. Will get professional movers in to do the packing as well as move but I'm a bit unsure whether I can manage the logistics of everything on the day on my own. Kids will be in school. Should I try and get a cleaner in to do the old house before I leave? Any tips?

Is everything happening on the same day, you moving out and in, and the new people moving into your place?

I wouldn't get a cleaner. As the movers empty a room you can go in and dust all around with a long feather duster then Hoover. I wouldn't expect anyone to have done any more than that.
Maybe get someone in the week before to clean your oven?

Pack a bag for the kids with pjs, clothes for the next day and a toy. Keep them separate then even if nothing else is unpacked they will have what they need.

Have you got someone who could pick the kids up from school and keep them for a couple of hours? 3pm is probably prime stressful moving in and unpacking time, it would be great if they were out of the way.

Thanks Knitwit. Kids will be at childminder/are older so I don't need to do school pickup. Last time I moved was out of a rental so we had to leave it spotless so I spent ages cleaning, but you are right. Will make sure overnight stuff is packed and in car!

Yes it's all in one day but packing may happen day before

I did our move on my own with movers a few months ago and my toddler was in day care. It's doable, but make sure you pack up all the last bits whilst the movers move furniture and stuff. We had one day after we moved and I left lots of small things in the old place and it was a mad dash getting everything sorted the next day. So, make sure you're on top of the last bits, you will be fine.
