Bonfire - is this acceptable??

DH has just sent me a photo of this bonfire being set up for nov 3rd at a local community hall. Seeing all those little crevices that would make perfect homes for hedgehogs and other little creatures and knowing its all going to be doused in accelerant and set alight in a couple of weeks actually makes me feel sick. I know this isn't AIBU but WIBU to complain to the council about this? It just seems so incredibly irresponsible Sad

Fucking hell that is beyond ridiculous! It's huge!! What the hell are they thinking making it so bloody big? I would definitely complain, AND ring the local fire station for advice, maybe ask them to swing by and have a look at it because surely that cannot be safe.

Bloody hell - looks like the huge things they build in NI.

NicoAndTheNiners · 22/10/2018 11:48

That looks like it could set the trees on fire! I'd also worry about the hedgehogs. Sad

Bombaybunty · 22/10/2018 11:49

Brockham bonfire?

TheHatOfDoom · 22/10/2018 12:37

Why set it up so soon? I know nothing about bonfires but surely the safest thing for wildlife is to set it up at the last second?

YWBU to complain, but not unreasonable to ask them to check for hedgehogs prior to lighting.

MoteOfDustInASunbeam · 22/10/2018 16:26

I thought “check for hedgehogs” as I was clicking on your thread title, before I even saw that photo. WTF? That’s a monstrosity. What are they trying to do? Guide RAF bombers home after bombing Dresden?

NoWordForFluffy · 22/10/2018 19:17

Who the bloody hell risk assessed that as being safe? They must've had a bang on the head. Definitely complain and agree re asking the fire brigade to pop by too.
