Should I give him some money? Competion winner

I won a tattoo in a competition.

Off to get it done now.

Should I give him some money as a tip? Or is that weird?
It's a £200 tattoo
Would handing over 20 quid be insulting?

Wow, you are lucky! Didn't know about tips for tattoo artists though. Guess it depends, go ahead if u want to! Hope it looks great.

pinkyredrose · 22/10/2018 10:57

I wouldn't. Tattoo artists are well paid, it's not an industry where you tip. Enjoy your session!

Tattandthis · 22/10/2018 11:53

But it's free. I feel bad paying nothing

Someone else is paying. Either the competition organiser or the business. It was their decision. No need to feel bad.

auntyflonono · 22/10/2018 12:22

If you like it take a bottle of wine in a few weeks later and write a good review.

pinkyredrose · 22/10/2018 14:56

I think it would be insulting if you got they needed a 'tip'.

sirmione16 · 22/10/2018 14:58

Yeah as pp said, it means someone else is paying so the artist isn't doing it for free as such, and a tip at 10% of the actual price doesn't seem right imo.

dustarr73 · 22/10/2018 15:00

Yes i would give them a tip.20 quid sounds about right.

I'm just bemused at a competition which offers a tattoo as a prize .... Hmm ....

.... misses the point entirely ....

Tattandthis · 22/10/2018 18:07

Mrs it was run by a tattoo shop.

You sent in a design and the favourite gets to have it inked.

I won virtually the same and I tipped £20 as my tattoo took 10hrs to complete. I was extremely grateful & over the moon with the result, my artist was pleased with the tip

Urbanbeetler · 22/10/2018 18:09

Sounds like you are skilful!

I would take a big box of biscuits or a tray of doughnuts.

Fishandthechips · 22/10/2018 18:11

My mum once won a day sitting at a tattoo studio as a raffle prize. She is the least likely person to get a tattoo ever so it was a bit wasted on her.
Personally I always tip but I imagine its all sorted now. Hope it went well op and you have a lovely new tattoo.

Kezzie200 · 22/10/2018 22:36

I won a hair do in a raffle. I tipped £10 and Id never tip that amount normally.

Not into tattoo etiquette tho!
