Please can anyone recommend and self help books? For someone with anxiety and depression and any tips people use for self care?
It’s for someone who is reluctant to get GP involved initially but is not averse to it after trying some interventions herself.

I’m reading notes on a nervous planet by Matt Haig. It’s not a self help book but it has lots of useful ideas, and is easy to read.

Look up “ well-being service” in your area.
It’s a self referral system for any mental health issues.
I contacted them and within 6 weeks spoke to a councillor on the phone who then sent me a 6 week online CBT course for anxiety.
They are not obliged to tell your GP either.

Thank you, I’ve told her about the thread so she can look and pick out what she wants.
Some really helpful books here too x

Try the untethered soul by Michael Singer. Anyone I've given it to has appreciated it.

A mindfulness app could help.

I read "How to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie. Great book.
