Would you email a company to ask if they had any discount codes or a sale coming up?

I did and DFriend is absolutely horrified and says I should be thoroughly embarrassed with myself.l, it’s tight and I’ve shown myself up.

I say, you don’t ask, you don’t get 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m not particularly worried if I’ve committed a terrible faux pa but I am interested to see if I’m in the minority Grin

I'm always up for a bargain or discount code. I refuse to pay full price for places like Joules, Oasis, fat face etc when all you have to do is a quick Google search and you can easily find a discount/voucher code. I don't think it's cheeky at all to ask, you've got absolutely nothing to lose (and everything to gain), the worst they can say is "No we don't".

NakedBrainStrollingInManhatten · 21/10/2018 20:44

I work in customer service for a fairly high end company and we get asked this all the time.

I really wouldn't worry about it.

The only time I hate it is when people try to lie to get extra discounts. Be up front and ask and if I can get you a little money off I will, but don't lie and try to trick me into giving you money off because it just doesn't work and doesn't make anyone want to help you. (I know you didn't try and be sneaky OP so the rant was not aimed at you)

Grin

They haven’t emailed me back yet so maybe they’ll read it and reward my initiative with a discount WinkGrin

It never would have occurred to me, but what a very sensible idea. I agree re Done ask don't get.

I'd be wary though of googling for discounts. That's one of the top ways how cyber criminals spread malicious viruses etc - they disguise them as discounts which you can find via a quick google search. Emailing the company direct is much safer.

BonBonns · 21/10/2018 22:20

Yes. I do regularly.

Usually I get 5 or 10% off.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 21/10/2018 22:22

No harm in asking

bestbefore · 21/10/2018 22:28

What company was it?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 21/10/2018 23:31

I figure, the worst they say is No!

DFriend was just absolutely horrified by me doing it! Apparently “be willing to pay full price of don’t buy it, asking for money off is scummy”

I personally thought it was a wee bit inspired Wink pleased I’m not alone!

Wtf is embarrassing about that? As you sG, you don't ask you don't get.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 22/10/2018 07:12

She’d be horrified if she saw my Waitrose shop last week...they sent me a bunch of £4 off £20 vouchers so I used a calculator on the way round and split my shop up to make the most of the vouchers Grin

Absolutely. Don't ask, don't get has worked for me so many times for all sorts of things, I always give it a go when the circumstances are right (without taking the pee or being insulting).

PreseaCombatir · 22/10/2018 07:35

I’ve never even thought to do this.
Let us k ow if it works, I might start!

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/10/2018 07:43

Just about everything is priced to allow for a discount code (there are some exceptions like Amazon, but it is very very widespread. Most websites have a 'sign up to our newsletter to get X% off' pop up as soon as you visit the site).

Modern day definition of having more money than sense is to buy something without using a discount code. Or eat in a chain restaurant without using a voucher.

If you google name of company and voucher code, you will find websites that list available discount codes.

tectonicplates · 22/10/2018 07:52

I Google for discount vouchers when I buy just about anything.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 22/10/2018 07:54

I’m a discount code queen Wink I can almost always find one or know tricks to get one but this time neither signing up to the mailing list or leaving the stuff in my basket has worked so I’ve no other choice Grin

I’ll report back!
