What did you not have growing up?

That 'everybody else in the world!' had? For me it was a tamagotchi. My mum was afraid of it waking me up at night because she heard you couldn't switch them off. I desperately wanted a 101 dalmatians one. I have a lump in my throat thinking about it now! It felt so lonely to be the only one in the playground without one. I even looped a Christmas cracker keyring over my finger and held it in my hand so I could pretend to myself I was like the others. Blush

What about you guys?

I didn’t have a Barbie. My mum thought Sindy was much nicer. To be truthful I was not very bothered by it but when friends came over they did comment! I still have my Sindy dolls.

CherryPavlova · 21/10/2018 20:30

An inside lavatory
A doorbell
A bathroom

Stupomax · 21/10/2018 20:32

DeadCertain · 21/10/2018 20:32

A TV.
Central heating.
Mains water.

Loads of toys / possessions / clothes other people had - not for lack of money but because mum didn't really believe in "fitting in".

A Tamagotchi, a furby, an Abercrombie and Fitch sweatshirt, light up sneakers, or a skateboard. Looking back, they were all very faddy and I'm glad I didn't have them!

OrigamiZoo · 21/10/2018 20:34

a car, central heating, a fridge or freezer, holidays, I could go on.....

junebirthdaygirl · 21/10/2018 20:35

We didnt have a TV in the 60s..All my friends had. My dps thought it would be easier with a big family not to have to police it. I was quite happy at home without one as didn't know any different. We all read a lot, played board games and were very contented. But l hated it in school as they all talked about the latest programme and l felt so odd. But to this day l rarely turn the TV on, have never got cartoons and generally am sort of glad l had none.

In frivolous terms (I'm guessing the thread was meant to be lighthearted) we all wanted the A La Carte Kitchen and never got it

My cousin who is now over 40 brought up a couple of years ago that he never got over not getting a Mr Frosty and his DM was genuinely upset as she never realised he was so desperate for one.

HeyMicky · 21/10/2018 20:36

I think we were one of the last to get a VCR.

I didn't have ITV growing up as we weren't allowed to watch it.

singmysongtoo · 21/10/2018 20:39

Pierced ears, I had to wait until I was 16.

GoldenBuns · 21/10/2018 20:40

A mum - I felt too embarrassed to tell most kids because they'd look at me like I'd grown two heads.

A tv (grew up in the 80s). Ditto the two heads thing.

Sforsh49 · 21/10/2018 20:41

Me and my brother wanted desperately A dog and a scalextric. Both moved out and got a dog each, I bought brother a scalextric! Dog hating mother fell absolutely head over heels with both dogs and we felt even more deprived as she bloody loved them so much and wanted to look after them at every opportunity!!

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 20:41

A dad. Nor a bike.

Neolara · 21/10/2018 20:41
